Fullers Mill combines a beautiful site of light dappled woodland with a plantsman’s paradise of rare and unusual shrubs, perennials, lilies and marginal plants. The garden was created by the late Bernard Tickner MBE (1924-2017). He moved to Fullers Mill in 1958 and spent over 50 years creating the garden you see today from rough scrub and woodland. For the botanically minded, the oh-so-white ‘petals’ are in fact bracts surrounding the shy, purply-green flowers in the centre.

A huge well done to everyone involved 🙌

To vote for Perennial’s The Laskett – An Autobiographical Garden for your RHS Malvern People’s Choice please visit: rhs.org.uk/malvernpeopleschoice

Designed by David Wyndham Lewis, the show garden was inspired by the loving partnership of Julia Trevelyan Oman CBE and Sir Roy Strong CH, who created The Laskett Garden, which was generously gifted by Sir Roy to Perennial - Gardeners' Royal Benevolent Society.

Key sustainability points:
🌱 All finishing materials are reused and will be reused.
🌱 The planting has been sourced peat free.
🌱 85% of the building materials will be reclaimed or recycled.
After the show:
🌱 The garden will be relocated to The Laskett, Much Birch, Herefordshire.

The garden has done so much already to raise awareness of Perennial and the charity's work helping support people in horticulture, it would be absolutely wonderful to be your People's Choice 💚

We're delighted to be opening in support of the National Garden Scheme today, Sunday 5 May.

The National Garden Scheme has donated more than £2 million to our parent charity Perennial - Gardeners' Royal Benevolent Society since 1986. This incredible support has been invaluable in helping Perennial assist people working in or retired from horticulture, so we're very pleased to be able to open for them 💚

Opening details: https://ngs.org.uk/gardens/fullers-mill-garden-ip28/

You can read more about the impact of the National Garden Scheme's donations to Perennial on pages 140-141 in this year’s Little Yellow Book of Gardens and Health, which is online here: https://ngs.org.uk/gardens-and-health-week-celebrating-the-joy/

Katsura heaven!

Flowering in branches above our heads, we needed a sunny day, a ladder and a helpful friend, to enjoy these exquisite beauties.

Just going over as the leaves emerge, these are the whimsical stigma of the Cercidiphyllum japonicum tree at Fullers Mill. Showy but seldom noticed, we now know that the tree is female, as Cercidiphyllum have male and female flowers on separate trees.
