Foraged and forgotten fruits, mulled into the delicious Winter Warmer cordial by our friends over in Macc Fruits of the Forage.

Hello lovely people of Buxton! We need your help 😀
You may have noticed recently that James who has been delivering your veg boxes and shopping over the past 6 months hasn't been around and Russ and Gav have been stepping in to keep your deliveries coming. James unfortunately broke his wrist gardening ! And is on the mend expecting to be back soon(ish). The order numbers have increased in Buxton which is excellent and Mark and I thank you massively for the support of organic, zero waste and ultra low emission delivery by cargo bike!
We have a very capable electric cargo bike called 'Toddy' living in a stable in Buxton (thanks to Kate and Roddy for the continued support) and delivery day for the cargo bike delivery run is Thursday starting around midday - 1pm and finishing around 5-6pm. We'd love to have you along for the ride and in exchange we pay real living wage (currently £12ph) and Mark very kindly has staff discount available for the amazing produce in the Day Zero Shop and of course you can make use of Toddy around Thursday when there's availability. Message us if you want to try Toddy out and we'll sort out a test ride. Thanks Russ, eLOV ❇️
This coming Tuesday there is another Climate Cafe happening in New Mills.
I’m co-facilitating the evening and it’s free to attend.
You need to book a place as attendance is limited to 15. To do so email [email protected]
See you there 🙏🏼

If you’re in Buxton and would like a great box of fruit and veg delivered to your place this week, then we can help.
All our fruit and veg is organic, supporting farmers with fair wages and fair practices.
Our peppers are a taste sensation, our apples as juicy as they come and this week we have perfect corn on the cob and the rather special kiwiberries coming in.
Order your box at dayzeroshop.tillex.co.uk
Delivery by electric cargo bike this Thursday afternoon.
Hey folks.
If you have any of our empty cardboard veg boxes, we’d really like some back. We’re really short of them for this weeks orders, so if you’re nearby today/tomorrow and can drop them in, it would be a great help. Thanks. 🙏🏼
Due to a medical appointment we’ll be closing half an hour early at 4pm tomorrow.
It’s our last day of opening before our holiday break, so this is your heads up not to leave it too late in the day to visit.
After closing time on Saturday, we re-open on Tuesday 10th September.
Apologies if that slightly earlier closing time causes you inconvenience.
Cheers
The Day Zero team x
Just a heads up that we’ll be closing for a family holiday next week. We’re open as usual for the remainder of this week then closed Monday 2nd to Monday 9th September inclusive.
Thanks for all your support.

Would you like to get involved in what we do at Day Zero?
We’re really hoping we can find someone keen to get involved with our veg boxes on Thursdays. If you’re the missing piece of our jigsaw, you have some time on Thursday mornings, then get in touch.
We’d love to be able to get more quality veggies out there. Drop us a message or call into the shop and leave your details. Thanks 🙏🏼

If you’re struggling to find Kingfisher toothpaste, we’ve just added it to our range.
And do remember that if there’s products you can’t get hold of, our wholesalers probably sell them so we can order them into the shop for collection for you.

Just a heads up that we’re closing at 1:30pm today.
We have someone off sick at the moment and are juggling commitments.
Apologies for any inconvenience, no change for tomorrows veg boxes nor Friday opening. We’re all good there.
Shop with us for your fruit veggies and salad this weekend. Our organic veggies are ready for you and customers love them. Call in today from 10am to 5pm.
We’ve got lots more ethically sourced, planet kinder products too, including organic wines, powdered oat milk (great for saving packaging and when you’re travelling) and quality supplements that contain pure ingredients with no fillers.

Hey, fancy a box of organic fruit/salad/veg this week?
There’s still time to order, just head on over to dayzeroshop.tillex.co.uk and pick the box of your choosing.
And this week, we’ll pick someone at random to win a copy of “The Veg Box”, an amazing recipe book with 100 recipes covering the UK’s 10 most wasted veggies. We love this book at home and have found many new family favourites in there.
Order by 9am tomorrow, deliveries on Thurs. Cheers
Really hate seeing plastic pollution on the beach these days, don't you?
This month is a great time to re-commit to reducing your own plastic use.
If you're near to a refill shop, do use them. If you're on hols in the UK, a quick google search for a refill or zero waste shop will point you in the right direction, and if you're on a beach, then we can all do our bit. Take a bag and make the place just a little bit cleaner than when you got there by spending 10 mins doing a little bit of beach cleaning.
Plenty of tips coming this month from us and there's even more at www.plasticfreejuly.org

We mentioned our friends at a few days ago. If you want a good reason to buy one of the most ethical brands of cleaning products in the UK, then we recommend following the advice from Ethical Consumer. Here's an extract of their product ratings. These are marks out of 100, and you'll see SESI up there in a glorious 2nd place in the table. Scoring 92 out of 100 is a brilliant testament to how hard SESI work. There really are people out here commited to making a real difference for consumers.
And you'll also see an example of how bad the leading brand are. These scores are produced on a range of criteria, people, animal testing, parent companies, ethos, palm oil, tax conduct, workers rights, packing and more. So yeah, SESI 92/100, Ecover 20/100, Persil 18/100, Method 16/100. And ah, yes Fairy gets 5/100.
Over to you, there's plenty more like this that we're into, pop in for advice and we'll help you choose more wisely. Refill with Day Zero, 30 High St, Buxton

Plastic sponge scourers break down into micro-plastics that get washed into our water system.
So, what’s the alternative.
This Plastic Free July pledge to switch to a natural alternative. These compostable sponges from Ecoliving sell well for us and are one of our customers favourite repeat buys. They last for ages and compost at the end of their life into harmless ingredients.
Pledge to never buy a horrible yellow sponge scouter again. Make the switch.

Over 30% of food is wasted.
Reduce the amount you throw out, buy just what you need and stick to a budget by using refill shops like us.
We're encouraging everyone to look for the next little change to make on your plastic free journey, as we're in the middle of Plastic Free July.
It's a huge campaign which runs every year and has been responsible for removing billions of pieces of single use plastic from waste systems. With so much more to do though, let's work those next steps together. Call in for advice on swaps, easy switches and ethical products.

This Plastic Free July, pledge to switch away from
Single use plastic.
Buy organic fruit and veg from us and do away with shrink-wrapped veggies!
Why the heck are supermarkets still doing that anyway! Like they haven’t had time to change!
Quick question for you.
As part of Plastic Free July, we're going to bring back a product on refill.
So, fizzy sweets or crisps on refill, which would you rather see back at Day Zero. Vote by commenting below. Team crisps or Team Fizzy Sweets, which are you?
Due to unforeseen circumstances we’ll be closed on Wednesday 24th July.
We’ll be back open as usual on Friday 26th July (note that we close on Thursdays each week for our veg box round).
Apologies for the late notice. Come see us later in the week.
Want an easy peasy switch to make for Plastic Free July.
PIck up one of these scourer pads. Plastic free, we've sold them for nearly 6 years and they're just brilliant. When you've done with them, they'll decompose on a compost heap.

About us
We have created something that we ourselves wanted to see, somewhere to shop without packaging, at a reasonable price and where you know you’re making a difference step by step.
This isn’t about us (Holly and Mark) it’s about ‘us’, all of us. Every one of us is a piece of the same jigsaw and we really feel the need to build a strong sense of community where everyone knows they’re bringing about change.
We’ll work with you to find out what you want to see in the shop and are already working hard to source the right products, as ethically as we can and at the best value we can offer.
We won’t always have the cheapest options on the high street, but we don’t have the buying power of multinational companies. The products we sell will be the most ethical we can source from the range available to us.
Support for the environment, sustainability, the rights of workers and support for people less privileged than ourselves are really important and we keep that in mind when we’re sourcing and buying our stock.
We hope you’ll call in and see us soon !
