There will be a service of thanksgiving for the life and ministry of Rev Dr Peter Charles Graves at 12 noon on Monday 22nd July 2024 at Wesley Methodist Church, Christ’s Pieces, Cambridge CB1 1LG.

Peter went to glory on Sunday 26th May and his funeral service took place last month. Peter's family are grieving the loss of a husband, father and grandfather. They know that he was also a friend and pastor to many as testified to in the numerous cards and letters that they have received. They now want to give thanks for his life and ministry and invite all to join them for the thanksgiving service.
“You can shed tears that he is gone, or you can smile that he has lived…” David Harkins

Love this!

THE 28TH EPISODE now available of Revd Professor John Jillions' blog on how our Orthodox institute was established 25 years ago in Cambridge. The Icon of Christ the Teacher painted by Aidan Hart, commissioned by IOCS to mark its 25th anniversary, shows in the background (right side of Christ) a fragment of Wesley House, Cambridge - the hospitable college on the premises of which Father John Jillions founded our Institute 25 years ago. To the left of Christ can be seen a fragment of the Cambridge University Library. The depiction of these two elements is a first in Orthodox iconography.

Father John's blog is based on his journal entries and is now released for the first time.

This blog is kindly offered as part of our celebrations for the Institute's 25th anniversary.

Join us for The Revd Dr Brian E Beck Memorial Lecture and Open Day on Saturday 6 July 2024

Honouring Brian's legacy, through funeral donations his family established the Brian E Beck Memorial Fund to support teaching and research into Methodist theologies. This year our annual open day will include the second Brian E Beck memorial lecture, given by The Revd Canon Dr Julian M. Pursehouse. Julian is an alum of Wesley House and is the current Chair of the East Anglia Methodist District until moving into a new role later in the summer. We are delighted that Julian will be present in person to give this lecture on the subject of "The Complete Art of Happiness - Engaging with Wesley through a Theology of Happiness’.

We would love to welcome you to Wesley House on 6 July for this lecture, afternoon tea and a service of evening prayer at which the worship will be led by our new Director of Reflective Pastoral Supervision, The Revd Nicola Vidamour, and our senior PhD student from Mainland China, Zhongya Shao.

Holiness 9.1 is now published! Within it we have investigations that range from hymnody to history, education to intersectionality, archival study to biblical theology, and, naturally, from Ghana to Bolton. 9.1 features articles from Adam Ployd, Paul Chilcote, Clive Field and the 2023 IAMSCU keynote from Bishop Emmanuel Asante, alongside book reviews from Michael Wilson, Hannah Bucke and Andrew Stobart and represents an enormous breadth to dig into. Most excitingly, our first non-English articles lay within it in the form of French and Portuguese translations (formulated by Claude Kimpinde and Priscilla Garcia respectively) of Bishop Asante's keynote which we hope will open the wisdom within it to an even wider audience. As ever we dearly hope you enjoy!

If you have any questions or queries or would like to submit a piece of your own please email the editor Joseph Powell at [email protected]

There's still time to sign up for this event. Bookings close on Tuesday, 23rd April.

Join us on 1st May with Woolf Institute to discuss this important report, one year on.

The Review was written by Colin Bloom, an Independent Faith Advisor. It appeared in April 2023 following an extensive public consultation to which 21,000 people contributed. The Review makes 22 recommendations to government on the role of faith in society, covering a range of topics from faith literacy to education to marriage to chaplaincy to extremism. While many have welcomed its call for increased understanding of and attention to faith in the public sector, many have also criticised its descriptions of believers and its concentration more on the dangers of religion than on religions’ positive contributions to society.

The aim of the event is to scrutinize the Review critically by bringing together key experts in faith and public life representing a variety of faith communities and equipped to address the diverse sectors engaged with by the Review, as well as to identify what is missing from it.
