Good advice

My grandmother once gave me a tip:
In difficult times, move forward in small steps.
Do what you have to do, but little by little.
Don’t think about the future
or what may happen tomorrow.

Wash the dishes.
Remove the dust.
Write a letter.
Make a soup.

You see?

Advance step by step.
Take a step and stop.
Rest a little.
Praise yourself.
Take another step.
And then another.

You won’t notice, but your steps will grow more and more.
And the time will come when you can think about the future without crying.

Dear Friends, visitors and supporters,

We would love as many people as possible to enjoy Cambridge University Botanic Garden during the current challenging time.

The Garden will therefore be open free of charge from Saturday 21st March until further notice.

We believe that it is hugely important for there to be accessible outdoor spaces to support physical and mental health at this difficult time. Within our 40 acres, it is possible to enjoy the Garden, while still maintaining a safe distance from others, as set out in the Government’s guidelines. As outlined below we have taken a number of steps to help ensure your safety, as well as the safety of our staff.

We will be unable to offer our usual trails, maps and visitor information – the Garden will simply be open for you to enjoy.

We will be running the Garden on a limited staff, so opening times will be reduced: 11am – 3pm, via the Brookside Gate only.

The Garden Café will be open for outdoor takeaway only, with no indoor seating and the café toilets will be closed also - the main toilets at the Glasshouses will be open.

The Glasshouse Range and the shop will be closed.

There will be staff on site, however we request visitors not to approach them unless there is an emergency. If you do need to approach them in an emergency, please maintain a safe distance of at least 2 metres.

While entry will be free, we would encourage and very much appreciate donations to help support us to remain open at this time.

Only registered guide and assistance dogs are permitted in the Garden.

As always, we want to thank you for your ongoing support for the Garden. We hope you enjoy your time in the Garden and that you keep well.

Thank you.
