We return to Ambatolahy for our third visit of 2024. During our last visit here in June, the MMS team saw and treated 515 people. This venue is one of the most difficult to reach, taking over 2 days across the high plateau, and there are always many waiting for us, some having walked over 100km to get to the clinic.

Our lovely volunteer Emily is currently out in Madagascar. Great to see she is 'on board' and visiting our most recent MMS in Ankavadra.

One 44 hour journey (incl. a 15 hour canoe ride with no facilities), load shedding issues, a 3 day journey home, a total of 741 patients and a true miracle event!
Just a snippet of what happened during our team's latest Medical Safari to Nosy Varika in August.

The latest Medical Safari report is now up on our website!
This was a new site for our team, a village only accessible by river ferry and approx 3,000 patients travelled (some from very far) for the mission.

The year is simply flying by! Both the UK and Madagascan teams have been working incredibly hard to support those most in need out in the Madagascan communities.

Welcome to the team Jess!

Jess is the newest member to our UK team and will be taking over our socials, website updates and generally helping with a bit of admin (there's plenty of it!)

Jess has recently returned to work after having her baby boy, Oliver, earlier this year and is excited to get stuck in and shout about the life changing work we do over in Madagascar.

Jess likes to get out for adventures with Oliver and her dog, enjoys cooking for the family and loves to crochet whenever she gets a quiet moment.

You'll see Jess around at some of our future HoverAid fundraiser events so make sure to say hi!

Exciting News!! đŸ—žïž Vanillabazaar x

HoverAid is pleased to announce an exciting partnership with Vanillabazaar whereby our vanilla products will show the HoverAid name, and a percentage of the revenues made will be donated to Hoveraid’s work. Both entities will seek to grow awareness of Madagascar and its needs, and the work we are each doing to address them.

The picture above shows Sakina and husband Hatim with HoverAid CEO John Greaves and Chairman Gwyn Davies-Scourfield at Vanillabazaar’s UK headquarters.

Sakina has said: “I am very pleased to see a UK based charity working with my birth country and I am sure that the help provided is more than precious to these very vulnerable people greatly in need. I hope we can work both ways in spreading the world to raise awareness”

More info to come! ✹

Have you read the MMS report from the mission to AMPASINAMBO?

The recent Madagascar Medical Safari (MMS) was an eventful one, impacted by rainy and muddy conditions. Despite poor weather, many patients arrived to meet HoverAid’s medical team who had initiated communication ahead of time to spread the word.
The most common medical conditions treated with surgeries were malaria and high blood pressure.

Read the full report to see how the plane got stuck in the mud, and part of the team picked up by helicopter! - https://uk.hoveraid.org/mms-ampasinambo-3/?mc_cid=84f509509f&mc_eid=bbc10e84da

Madagascar Medical Safari to Sahakevo – Read the full report here: https://uk.hoveraid.org/mms-sahakevo-2024/?mc_cid=84f509509f&mc_eid=bbc10e84da

Near the East coast of Madagascar, HoverAid’s MMS team and pastor completed a challenging MMS mission this May accompanied by MAF’s film crew.

The medical team’s dentist had to return to Marolambo after contracting Malaria and torrential rain hit the tents. Despite the difficult circumstances the week’s Hoveraid team completed 273 medical consultations, 63 ultrasound scans, 19 major surgeries and 3 minor surgeries.

Many children were found to have Malaria and a number of patients had secondary conditions caused by the disease, therefore anti-malarial drugs ran low.

Please help support our upcoming medical missions to ensure we reach more people with life-saving treatment – £1,100 will cover all the medicines needed for a one-week clinic - https://uk.hoveraid.org/donate-2/

Redbull Soapbox Race 2024 - 2ND PLACE FOR THE HOVERKART

It took only 40 seconds for the HoverKart to whizz down the slope at Alexandra Palace on Saturday, easily traversing jumps, water, foam jets, bumps, and chicanes.

See how masterful pilot Ollie managed to avoid the straw bales and speed to the finish, as shown on TV, by clicking here:
https://photos.onedrive.com/share/5FF02FF7A9BF6C20!34998?cid=5FF02FF7A9BF6C20&resId=5FF02FF7A9BF6C20!34998&authkey=!AH6BrbtsazRnGQs&ithint=video&e=W73tdf&mc_cid=822de8cd71&mc_eid=bbc10e84da
..and not just finish, but reach the podium in SECOND place overall out of nearly 60 competing teams. More importantly HoverAid and our mission was shared with thousands spectating and meeting us there as well as many more via the broadcast event TV show and on social media.

We still need your help to get the new hovercraft tested, shipped, and deployed in Madagascar to enable us to reach even more of the unreachable!

"Red Bull Soapbox challenge" (Alexandra Palace, Saturday 22nd June)

Our fantastic engineering volunteers at our Sussex workshop are designing and building a "HoverKart" for the event. It doesn't actually hover, but it will be raising funds to help get our new hovercraft tested, shipped, and deployed in Madagascar to enable us to reach even more of the unreachable.

Please support our valiant graduate HoverVolunteers who are once again challenging themselves on behalf of HoverAid. This year they are doing an indoor Cyclothon, with two competing bikes aiming to race the distance across Madagascar on May 23rd. Donations will go towards the completion, shipping and commissioning of our new RiverRover hovercraft which will enable us to reach more of those otherwise unreachable communities there.

On Saturday Andy, John, and Richard (one of our brilliant HoverBuild volunteers) ran an event at the Cambridge University Engineering Department called "What are you working for?", in conjunction with CICCU, the university Christian Union, introducing HoverAid and our mission. Teams of the students were challenged to design and build a hovercraft in 35 minutes. The winning team (pictured) created this wonder, which lifted over 8kg!

CEO John also did a Q&A, sharing his experience of being a Christian, why he made the switch from senior business roles to the Charity sector, and what motivates us to "love our neighbour" even though our Madagascan neighbours are 6000 miles away
