Panel 3: Multi-level governance and participatory decision-making
Our third panel will look at multi-level governance and participatory decision-making, looking at ways to bring decisions as close to people as possible to efficiently address their concerns.
Multi-level governance diffuses power amongst different levels, such as from EU through national to regional and local. How decentralised should our countries be? How much power should be given to the different levels of governance so that different topics are decided in the most appropriate places?

Although our conference has aimed to and remains apolitical, inviting people from different sides of the political spectrum, and while the recent developments in Ukraine are beyond the scope of our conference, our countries are deeply connected and we would like to express our solidarity with Ukraine, and its citizens - those still in Ukraine, those living in our countries, as well as fellow students, staff and colleagues at the University.
We have decided to donate all the proceeds from the conference raised from ticket purchases to Človek v ohrození (the Slovak equivalent of People in Need - https://clovekvohrozeni.sk/pomoc-ukrajina/), a charity supporting Ukrainians through safe accommodation, food and water as well as other forms of support. Whilst there might be little that we can do, this is our small share of trying to help.

Panel 2: Green & just transition
The just transition argues for a focus on the socio-economic impact that environmental policy will have on specific industries or people in specific regions. In the context of the V4, this concerns primarily coal-mining regions where many jobs currently depend on the environmentally-damaging activity. The panel will explore strategies that could be adopted by CE governments to not sacrifice vulnerable regions and workers within them whilst ambitiously contributing to climate mitigation.
Our first panel will focus on regional inequality in Central Europe. Head over to our website to find out more details about the topic and stay tuned as we reveal the experts who will discuss the pressing questions of this topic.
This year's topic will be explored in three panels hosting academics, politicians, policy-makers and other experts from the V4 region. Stay tuned to learn more about the topics covered by each panel!
The Cambridge Central European has been exploring themes related to the region since 2017/18, with topics such as "Post-1989 Transformation and Historical Memory" or "Prague Spring and its Legacies".
This year we will explore the topic of "Regional Development", looking at how regions in the V4 can face its historical and contemporary challenges to develop within all their regions.
This year's conference will take place on Sunday, 13th of March 2022 - and we are excited to announce that it will be held in Jesus College, Cambridge!
