It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Polar Library! This year the book tree was constructed by our MPhil students using titles from the fiction collection. Why not swing by and check out our new books display and our new cosy chairs?

On 1 December 1959 the Antarctic Treaty was signed by 12 nations, setting aside nearly 10% of the Earth "forever to be used exclusively for peaceful purposes... in the interests of all mankind." Today there are more than 50 nations signed up to the treaty, helping to protect the content and reserve it for peaceful activity and science.
HIDDEN HISTORIES
Explore the hidden histories of the Polar Museum in this new label display. From the female figures in polar history to the origins of Inuit art; follow the stories around the museum exhibits and discover something new.
This display is part of the University of Cambridge Museums' Power and Memory programme.
Available to view during museum opening hours 10am–4pm, Tues-Sat.

Make sure you stock up on greetings cards, baubles, penguin decorations and much more in our Polar Museum Shop, because the Polar Museum will close from 1pm on Friday 22nd December 2023, until 10am on Tuesday 9th January 2024.
UKAHT will be at The Polar Museum, Scott Polar Research Institute tomorrow from 10am to 4pm with a pop-up shop for .
It will be the only public UKAHT shopping event this year, so it's a rare chance to learn about our work in person!
There will, of course, be plenty of penguin-themed goodies! 🐧🎄

There will be plenty of offers and discounts and at 2pm, Jean de Pomereu will introduce some of the objects on display in the Polar Museum included in ‘Antarctica: A History in 100 Objects’, a book which he co-authored with Daniella McCahey. Discover some of the fascinating themes in the museum with our new tea and talk programme for adults. Each session will have a 40-minute talk followed by a chance to chat with the speaker and your fellow attendees over a cuppa. For this session our theme will be the Origins of Inuit Art.
