Diagnosis: Mid-portion Achilles Tendinopathy
Main Subjective Indicators:
- A.M pain and stiffness
- Very active dancer, regular high impact and repetitive movements of the ankles
- No specific MOI
- PMH: Achilles Tendinopathy
Main Objective Indicators:
- Oedema of Achilles mid-portion
- Decreased strength and pain with SLHR
- Pain end of range with passive dorsiflexion
- +ve RLH Test
- +ve Arc Sign
Treatment:
☑️ Pain management as advised by a General Practitioner
☑️ Controlled tendon loading program
☑️ Activity modification in correspondence to prescribed rehabilitation program
*A full assessment needs to be completed before engaging in an active rehabilitation program to rule out the risk of further injury and to ensure the rehabilitation program is appropriate to the condition*

THERAPEUTIC ULTRASOUND
One of our popular treatment modalities is ultrasound therapy.
How it works: Ultrasound therapy has a beneficial deep thermal effect that is created by the ultrasound waves. The waves create a subtle vibration in the damaged tissues at a depth chosen by the physiotherapist. This stimulates the production of collagen alongside the deep heat, benefitting a range of structures including ligaments, tendons, scarring, fibrous joint capsules and more.
Ultrasound therapy can help with:
* Pain Relief
* Reducing muscle spasms
* Facilitating Tissue Repair
It is this last benefit that improves recovery times following an injury. When treated using an ultrasound therapy machine, more mast cells are brought to the injured area. This influx of cells improves blood flow to the injured tissue, which aids the inflammatory response of the body following an injury.
In 2018 the Archives of Rheumatology studied the Effectiveness of Ultrasound Therapy on Myofascial Pain Syndrome of the Upper Trapezius. They found that conventional ultrasound therapy is effective in the treatment of myofascial pain syndrome and
significant improvements were observed in reducing pain and muscle spasms.
