COMPANIONSHIP
Just a momentary glimpse of the beautiful relationship between our carers and residents. Companionship is important for people with dementia because it can:
improve mood, reduce isolation, provide emotional support, offer comfort, reassurance, and a sense of belonging. It encourages cognitive stimulation, and help people feel connected to others, increase the sense of safety and security.

Time for a simple chat provides all of these benefits and helps us provide continuous supervision and immediate assistance too.

We are so proud and excited to share, on behalf of the chair of judges for Care Forum Wales, a huge Congratulations to Llys Herbert and Chef, Kyle Wilson for being shortlisted to receive a Wales Care Award 2024.

As a shortlisted nominee, Kyle will attend the proposed Award Ceremony at the Mercure Cardiff Holland House this October.

We are not surprised as Kyle is renowned for his varied nutritional menus, excellence and finesse in delivering high quality food to our resident and visitors alike. We are all behind you, Kyle. Wishing you the best of luck!

Llys Herbert deliver exercise sessions on a daily basis and we are proud to be the only home recognised for adopting the NHS Falls Prevention Programme. Our residents thoroughly enjoy the sessions and the numbers are growing each day!

Here's a sneak peek at one of our session but watch this space.....we will be filming soon so you can really get a feel for the programme. Our sessions aim to minimise the risk of falls by focusing on building strength, balance and confidence.

We just love our monthly sing a long session with GOLDIES CYMRU. Orchestrated by our beautiful Sue, the community, residents, relatives and staff enjoy the uplifting, energising singing and dancing together!

Sustainability is the name of the game........What better way to spend a weekend morning making peanut butter seed balls for the local birds!

Physical activity is an important part of a healthy lifestyle at Llys Herbert. It can help improve overall wellbeing and bring residents together. Many of our residents report how activity makes them feel more energised, positive and fit. Our varied exercise programme helps to improve coordination and balance, physical fitness, and building muscle and flexibility. Just look at the joy on our residents faces.....exercise is good for the mind and body!

Llys Herbert have recently introduced step by step art classes and its proving to be very popular. The group have created beautiful pieces detailing birds and realistic eye drawings and paintings.

Art projects create a sense of accomplishment and purpose. It is a relaxing activity and provides the opportunity for self expression. Watch this space for more interesting pieces of artwork.

Free Event at Llys Herbert Thursday 29th August 2024, 2pm - 4pm

Having raised garden boxes is a great way for our lovely residents to be able to continue to enjoy their love of gardening. Not only is it good exercise, but its great for our wellbeing as it has been shown to lighten mood and lower levels of stress and anxiety by increasing levels of serotonin in the body! What a great job our residents have done here at Llys Herbert as its all looking blooming lovely.

Residents enjoyed making some yummy banana bread and scones which went down a treat during Tea at 3 in our cafe.

LLys Herbert brought the Olympic games to Cardiff but it wouldn't be the Olympics without lots of fun and some friendly competition. Sport is not only a great way to keep fit, but it's a fantastic way to socialise and get everyone laughing!

Don't miss our very own Olympic-themed open Sports Day this coming Wed 24th July at 2 pm where you can join residents, staff and members of the community for an afternoon of fun games and activities with refreshments and live entertainment too.

It was so nice seeing the sun out today that we just had to take a few of the residents down to the Lisvane And Llanishen Reservoirs and what a great time they had!

Serious concentration on the faces of our lovely ladies as they engage in the daily scrabble session. Each trying to win to be top of the leader board. Good luck ladies.
