Age spots can be annoying- so preventing them is important, however they are treatable too. I use AlumierMD skincare for my patients alongside treatments such as Microneedling, RF Microneedling, and skin peels.

A debate going round at the moment….let’s discuss the facts:

•If you’re young and you have lots of filler to create contours that you never had- then yes I agree this can age you.

•Signs of a mature face include more bony prominences- the cheeks, eye sockets and chin for example. This isn’t the bones getting bigger, it’s the areas surrounding the bony prominence and the fat and skin that lose volume.

•Therefore if you give someone the appearance of a bigger cheekbone, a pointier chin etc, then this can create a more mature face

I believe in treatments to restore balance, symmetry and contours that have been lost due to ageing.

What I can’t do though, is give a 50 year old the same cheekbones when she was 20, because that would just look odd.

Subtle tweaks to make you look good for your age are better than trying to use lots of filler to try and turn back the clock in my opinion.

And the answer is.. Dermal Filler! I love the instant result, and I love seeing people’s reactions when they look in the mirror.

Being able to restore confidence in less than 1 hour by making someone look refreshed and smoother is such an amazing feeling.

PS- no duck lips are created here, I’m all about restorative treatments.

Keeping it real with my 'beach waves/aka beach frizz' and no make up. Trying to keep my face out of the sun so still pale despite the blistering heat. Looking back at this photo did prompt me to go out and buy some intensive conditioner though, my hair is fried.

Why do we gain weight around the middle during peri-menopause?

Oestrogen is responsible for the distribution of fat stores around the body. As these levels decline, more fat is deposited around the abdomen.

We can’t just blame the menopause though. This can be due to our diet- refined carbohydrates such as pastries, cakes and bread for example can cause fat to deposit around the abdomen. Stress can also be a factor, along with some genetic predisposition.

Our lean muscle mass declines with age, often alongside decreasing activity levels and we therefore need less calories to fuel our bodies.

It only takes an excess of 3500 calories to gain a pound of weight. If you’re consuming just 500 calories more week than your body needs, this can quickly add up.

The average weight gain for a woman in her 50s is 1.5 pounds per year. But we now know that perimenopause can begin much earlier than this with lots of women feeling and seeing changes in their early forties.

What can you do to help this?

I find apps such as Nutricheck and Noom helpful for monitoring calorie requirement, maintaining a healthy diet and weight alongside a set of body mass scales. I often recommend these to my fat loss patients.

Taking regular exercise that increases your muscle mass- strength training and a high protein diet can be helpful for weight loss, but also long term health and longevity.

The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn at rest.

My own experience having polynucleotides for treating wrinkles on my neck and chest:

Whilst I’ve took really good care of my skin on my face, my neck and chest were neglected for a long time and are starting to age me.

I’m starting to feel the skin on my neck becoming loose and crepey, and my chest got burnt every year at the first sign of sunshine and as a result it’s become very bumpy, and crepey and covered in deep and fine lines.

Here’s what it felt like:

•It didn’t hurt a lot, just a little stingy from the pressure of the liquid being injected. My practitioner didn’t feel that I needed numbing cream- and she was right.

•any discomfort felt was gone as soon as the needle was removed
