At the best of times Christmas Pudding can be the subject of polarising conversations, so a photo of Christmas Pudding in September might cause a stir.

If you are still holding onto the thought of an Indian Summer and this couldn’t be further from your minds, we apologise, as you were.

If with the slight chill in the air your thoughts have turned to the festive season and you are a keen planner who quite fancies the look of this delicious Pud with custard, then all of our pubs now have their festive menus on their websites and are merrily taking bookings.

The Mill House, Hook.

Listed in the Domesday Book, the Mill House was rebuilt after a fire in 1345 and known as King’s Mill.
By the 20th century it had become a residential property and in the 90’s became a restaurant and the wheel was restored in 1995.

Sadly the wheel has since given up on us again - but the Mill House has been part of our family of pubs since 2007 and it’s an absolute gem.

John Wadsworth very kindly gave us this fabulous photo of his dad’s car, together with his two friends parked outside The Aspinall Arms 80 years ago.

The cars were owned by Harold Bradley, Harry Bolton and Edgar Wadsworth and they used to enter motor sports events under the team name ‘The Cloggers’!

It's officially Afternoon Tea Week this week.

The tradition was 'invented' by Anna, Duchess of Bedford back in the 19th Century.

It all started when a peckish Duchess, around 4 pm, would ask for tea, finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, and cakes to be served in her room. What began as a private affair became more of a social occasion (or tea party) when the Duchess got into the habit of inviting relatives and friends to join her. At the time, tea would be served on low comfortable chairs and tables. And all the while the Duchess and her upper-class guests would chat and gossip (a scone and moan - sounds perfect).

Lots of our pubs offer Afternoon Tea, visit your favourites website to see if it's available to book. www.brunningandprice.co.uk
