Trying my hand at jousting today 🏇🏻🏰

The amazing were superb from their lovely horses, their fab equipment, incredible lesson plan and of course our teacher too!

It was also fun being the student for a change!!

Highly recommend giving this experience a go, not just for fun but it’ll expand your riding skills repertoire too 🙌

The ache is very real. The lances are heavy, yes! And actions my body is not used to despite being in the saddle everyday 😮‍💨

Definitely something I’ve always wanted to try and I WILL be going back to them to expand my skill set ASAP!!

Do your horses like water?

Horses often prefer running or clearer water as they can assess the depth and safety more easily ⛲️ which is why we sometimes have horses that hate puddles but love the water complex out on the cross county course!

Following the news that Animal Therapy Magazine would need to stop owing to time commitments of a small hardworking team, we are pleased to officially announce that a group has stepped forward to help! They are motivated to keep Animal Therapy Magazine delivering specialist information to our worldwide audience of Animal Therapists, Vets, professionals and dedicated owners striving to do the best for their pets. We’ll do some introductions to the humans (and their animals!) over the next week so you can put faces to names.

To all of our subscribers, writers, advertisers and followers, we can’t quite believe it but we are back and have started work on the next issue! Please give us a share to help spread the word.

The late night yard crew 🙈

Lovely Levi has been in his stable all weekend due to an awful bout of mud fever getting infected 😫

He mostly doesn’t mind too much being the one that gets all the attention, lots of hugs and, of course, an apple a day (or several) to keep the misery away! 🍎
He has escaped whilst on a leg stretch to go and find his field buddies (which hasn’t helped!) but I can’t blame him in this situation - horses aren’t meant to be housed constantly 😨 - but mostly he is coping incredibly 🙌

Hello lovelies 🙌

This weekend was a rare occasion where there were no sessions or lessons and I swapped wellies for heels and spa slippers 👏

Working with horses is physically demanding so I took some time in the spa to reset ready for the week ahead.

Working most weekends can also be a little strain on the social life so I try and take time to be ME - the part of me without the hay in my hair and with my friends 🙌

I was part of an incredible group of ladies getting festive at Rushton Hall 🎄💃

If any ladies want to find a group of like-minded women to spend time with over various countryside pursuits then look no further than 😍

NO QUESTIONS ARE SILLY and the answer is YES, you can learn about all things ‘horse’ with us! In fact, we encourage it 🥳🙌 the more you know, the better a partner, rider or herd member you can be 💙

One of our lovely young ones learning to lunge today. We did a whole morning of horsemanship from taking off rugs and prepping muscles to identifying the smallest signals from Prince 🐴 and how “it really isn’t as easy as it looks, you have to use your whole body to talk?!”

Can’t beat sessions like this 🙌 within minutes we go from not communicating succinctly to trotting around in perfect engagement 👏👏👏👏

Why does it feel early to be clipping full winter fluff off of ponies? 🙈 Even so, these two are the first of the yard to feel freshly trimmed here 🙌

🌟 OVER AND OUT 🌟

Aaaand just like that the school holidays are over! Always a shame for us 😩 but amazing for the children go back to school with PLENTY of stories to tell 🙌🥳

Books are open for October half term lessons and pony days 😎 (15th-31st October!) 🌟

For now, as the ponies and I have worked very hard for a good few months we are all taking some time off 🙌

It is important in our horsemanship philosophy that horses get time to be horses. They work incredibly hard to teach and help our human partners, so they need to take time to release all the emotions they’ve carried for us, rest their muscles, and recharge their batteries ready for the colder seasons! 🫣😊

I am also having time off for many reasons and I am in Spain 🥰🥳 So sessions are on hiatus until 19th September but inboxes are all open if you need us or want to book in from the 19th!

📣 New Herd Member! 📣

The reason the trailer went out on a 7 hour adventure was to pick up…

PRINCE 🙌👑⭐️

Prince is a 15hh, 9 year-old, Thoroughbred Cross.
His last owners had him for all but 4 months of his nine years after they had rescued him from a shed 😨🥰

He LOVES to jump but also enjoys a good chilled hack, so he’s going to be a wonderful addition to the herd!

Can’t wait for us all to get to know him properly 🙌🤎

Interesting experiment and potentially something to consider in this weather! 🥵

A colleague of mine recently qualified but no one I would trust more to work with my animals - she’s a wonderful horsewoman! 🙌

🤩 PROUD MOMENT INCOMING!! 😍

After a lot of research the equine perspective approach aims to look at horses and their riders as a team not singles, embracing both brains, both perspectives… 🧠

This little girl GETS IT! For such a young age her compassion for horses (her pony in particular of course!) and her determination to be good at what she does is coming to fruition in so many ways 🥰🥳

We’ve learnt and practiced, cried and discussed, taken breaks and screamed in delight 💖 and there they go, out to their first jumping competition and SMASHING IT! Going unaided (not led), managing pony cheekiness and unsureness and coming out BEAMING 🤩😍

This is why I do what I do. To make lasting partnerships and knowledgable, capable riders who understand their horses and manage their individuality in all situations 🙌 and happy horses who will perform for their human because they know they’re listened to and that life with humans is FUN! 🥳

Couldn’t be prouder of this amazing young woman and everything she’s learning 😌

For all equestrians who have a good relationship with their horse trainers and riding instructors please remember your wins are ours, simply because we can see your happiness and celebrate that accomplishment by your side 🙌
