That's the 2023 season of exciting VSCC motor sport finished. Another year when, despite the sometimes frantic scrabble for marshals we managed to run every event. Some events in glorious sunshine and others in torrential rain but our hardy marshals were out there keeping everyone safe. The Marshal and Volunteer Sub Committee would like to extend their thanks to everyone who has volunteered in some role and whatever discipline over the last twelve months, your hard work is very much appreciated. Next year we have another full season and also the 90th Anniversary week in August with a full programme of events, we hope to see you all out again in 2024, in the mean time we would like to wish all our marshals and volunteers a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

WELSH TRIAL14TH-15TH OCTOBER
YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU - URGENT PLEA FOR MARSHALS

Only a few weeks before our triallist and marshals arrive in the Welsh border town of Presteigne. Our event has been held there since 1939 and we always receive a warm welcome from the locals.

Run over two days, the trial always gets a full entry and sees competitors attempt a range of sections from grassy slopes, forest sections to stony hillsides returning to Presteigne High Street on Saturday afternoon to compare scores and tactics over a few beers, only to set off again on Sunday morning for more of the same.
The Trial finishes on Sunday afternoon at Cwm Whitton Farm, where refreshments are available. A super weekend for everyone, but like all events these cannot take place without enough marshals to run the event safely and efficiently. This year with only a few weeks to go the organisers are desperately short of marshals, currently they only have enough to run about 8 of the planned 15 sections! If you are available either Saturday or Sunday or both please give some serious thought to helping out. Or are you a competitor who competes during the Race and Speed season, how about coming out the help the Non-Speed organisers. No-one wants to see events suffer due to lack of marshals. Please check your diaries and if you are able to help please contact the comps dept ASAP on 01608 644777.

Saturday 1st April saw the end of the trialling season, with a brilliant event based around the Scottish town of Biggar. Over the past few months our triallist have been out and about from Exmoor in February which was very wet and muddy, followed by Derbyshire the beginning of March, which was in total contrast and very dry resulting in 14 winners in Class 1B, a week later and the trial would have had to be cancelled due to heavy snow falls in the Peak District. The Measham Rally usually taking place in January, was postponed to mid March this year and conditions saw competitors battle against snow, rain and floods, but an enjoyable night was had by all. The two day Herefordshire trial mid March saw some rain in the week leading up to the event and some muddy section, and localised heavy rain and thunderstorms on the Saturday for some sections, whilst Sunday the sun shone, and the new start finish venue proved to be a success. Organisers of the Scottish Trial lost six sections in the week leading up to the event due to heavy rain fall, and did wonder whether the whole event might just result in a glorified swamp because of ground conditions, but new hills and a revisit to some not used for a while and competitors enjoyed fourteen hills on the day. A brilliant end to the trialling season and huge congratulations to the 2022/23 Champion Simon Price.
The MVSC would like to thank all the organisers and marshals for their hard work over the past few months.
So it's barbours, waterproofs and wellies put away and out with the orange overalls for a lot of our marshals as we see the busy Race and Speed season spring into action.

20/02/2023

Last weekend saw the VSCC Trials back in action after the winter break. Our triallists ventured down to Exmoor where it was Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud, which suited everyone down to the ground and a fabulous day was had by all. The MVSC would like to thank the organising team for all their hard work in putting on the event. If you are looking for something to do over the next few weeks, the VSCC can oblige, an event every weekend up until the beginning of April!! This weekend it's the Pomeroy Trophy at Silverstone, this unique event has run since 1952 and sees the speed and agility of pre-war cars pitted against those of newer cars. A series of test ending with 40 minutes of track time on The Grand Prix Circuit. Quickly on the heels is the John Harris (Derbyshire Trial) based around the Peak District in north Derbyshire. The rescheduled Measham Rally on 11th March, will be starting and finishing in Leominster, with 190 rally miles for our keen rallyists to get round. The following weekend and it's the two day Herefordshire trial, always a favourite, and a cracking two days trialling. The Light Car and Edwardian Section descend on Llandrindod Wells for their annual get together, tours on the Saturday followed by the Annual Awards and Dinner at the Metropole Hotel, before the Trial on the Sunday. The last event before Easter is the Scottish trial based around the lovely town of Biggar, always a fantastic social weekend. Phew after all that activity the wonderful staff in the Comps Department will be ready for a break. However non of these events can take place without sufficient marshals and volunteers. The Herefordshire Trial and Scottish Trial are both in need of more people to marshal on these events. If you able to help out please contact the comps dept asap YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU !!

The past year we have seen the VSCC motoring activities get back to normal with events taking place without the need for social distancing or compulsory wearing of face masks, a great relief to all involved.
Our marshals and volunteers have been out in force, and your hard work, dedication, professionalism and commitment has shone through out the whole season, whatever the discipline.
Unfortunately our number of volunteers and marshals has dropped significantly over the past few years, with some events been very near to the bone on sufficient numbers. Therefore, with a full calendar of events published for 2023, why don't we all try and encourage at least one person each to come along and join our happy band, without sufficient marshals and volunteers events stand the risk of being reduced or cancelled and no-one wants to see that.
The MVSC would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been out in some volunteering/marshaling role in 2022, we really appreciate the work you do for the Club and we look forward to seeing you all in 2023.
May we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and New Happy Year.

26/09/2022

Saturday saw the final event of the 2022 Race and Speed calendar with Long Prescott rounding off the season. We have had some brilliant events and been graced with good weather for most of them. Saturday was no exception, finished off with a lovely gathering of marshals, volunteers and competitors outside the Club House to join members of the MVSC and TOPO staff to raise a glass to Chief Marshal John Williams, who after many years of marshalling at events in the UK and overseas has decided to step down. Our thanks go to John for all his hard work and dedication he has shown over the years. The Marshals and Volunteers Sub Committee would also like to extend their thanks to everyone who has been out marshalling during the Race and Speed season, it goes without saying that without your hard work and commitment these events could not take place.
Now it is time to get out the barbours, and waterproofs as 8th October sees the resumption of the Trials season, the first event being the two day Welsh Trial around the Welsh border town of Presteigne. Always a fantastic weekend, enjoyed by both competitors and marshals, but as with many events could do with more marshals to enable it to run safely for everyone. Therefore, if you compete but have never marshaled or have never done either how about giving up a few hours to come and lend a hand, you can volunteer to marshal on one day or both. We can guarantee you a good day and you will see some brilliant driving. Interested please volunteer to the office by emailing [email protected] or calling 01608 644777 (ext 3)

23/03/2022

The MVSC would like to thank everyone who marshaled or volunteered on last weekends Herefordshire Trial. We were blessed with two days off glorious sunshine, some superb driving by the competitors and two film crews.
April 2nd sees the trialists move north of the border to the lovely Scottish town of Biggar. Organiser Martin Jelley would welcome a few more marshals. If you are free and able to help out please contact.
[email protected] or 01704 507663 ASAP. A good day is guaranteed.

With two successful trials taken place so far in 2022 we have another two before we take a break for the summer. The Herefordshire Trial, a two day event takes place 19th/20th March. starting late on the Saturday morning and finishing mid afternoon on the Sunday, a great selection of hills for our trialist to test their skills, a supper party at How Caple on the Saturday evening revealing "half-time" scores all make for a super social weekend.
The organisers are hoping for a few more marshals so if you are free either day please contact: Mark Garfitt at [email protected]

Saturday 2nd April sees us North of the Border in the Scottish town of Biggar. We are short of marshals for this event. If you are a novice or an experienced marshal and fancy a day of fresh air in the picturesque Scottish Borders, working as part of a team, seeing some tremendous driving and great cars please get in touch as soon as possible to [email protected] or 01704 507663

08/02/2022

After a successful event at Brooklands for the Winter Driving Tests the end of January, the VSCC events calendar is picking up pace. This weekend see our trialists venture to Exmoor where muddy moors, rolling hills and thick forests await them, no doubt plenty of fettling will have gone on over the past few months so they will be keen to get out and test the cars.
February 19th and its Silverstone for The Pomeroy Trophy, a unique event, seeing Pre-War and Post War vehicles. The morning cars are tested on handling, braking and acceleration and the ability to carry two VSCC cases!! The afternoon drivers take to the famous Grand Prix Circuit for 40 mins to see if they can achieve their target number of laps.

March and its back to trialing, 5th March and we are in the Peak District for the John Harris Trial, a range of different hills accessed by some stunning Derbyshire scenery. Ben Wildsmith and his team have been working hard to ensure a good day out for everyone.

19th March and we are in Herefordshire for Mark Garfitt's two day trial. Starting late on the Saturday morning and finishing mid afternoon on the Sunday, a great selection of hills for our trialist to test their skills, a supper party at How Caple on the Saturday evening revealing "half-time" scores all make for a super social weekend.

However, these events can not run without sufficient marshals. Both the Derbyshire and Herefordshire Trials are in need of more marshals. Never marshaled before, don't worry you will be put with an experienced marshal who will guide you through the day. You will have a good day out and see some great driving skills.

If you are able to help out please get in touch with:
Barry Smith at [email protected] to volunteer for The Derbyshire Trial

Mark Garfitt at [email protected] for the Herefordshire. (For this trial you can volunteer to marshal for either Saturday or Sunday or both days)

Or contact the VSCC comps dept on [email protected] telephone 01608 644777 to volunteer for either trial.
