**5K Pitch Competition**

are running a special competition for start-ups, to win backing and support for up to £5k for their business idea.

Anyone that is currently registered with the Go Succeed Programme, and have been operating for less than two years, are invited to enter The Ultimate Pitch Competition.

Judging will take place in October.

Entries close Thursday 12 September.

Reflecting across those years, we take a moment to honour the man who played a significant role in laying the foundations for our success — founding CEO, Ray Young.

For over 20 years, Ray led our organisation with unwavering dedication, turning vision into reality.

His passion for community, his belief in people, and his relentless drive to make a difference left a truly special and inspirational legacy.

Even though we sadly lost Ray in 2021, his spirit lives on in everything we do.

As we celebrate 40 years of growth, innovation, and community impact, we remember Ray's remarkable contributions to small business owners & individuals with deep appreciation.

Delighted to show Minister Caoimhe Archibald MLA around the Courthouse today as part of her visit to Bushmills, organised by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, to hear more about the need, and impact of the Growth Deal on the village.

During the tour the Minister visited our acrylic art class, hosted in the adjacent former Meeting House. The creative workshop series is taking place across this week with local landscape artist, Sarah Carrington, supported by the National Lottery through the Arts Council.

A familiar face…

Many of you will recognise our longstanding Board member, John Armstrong MBE – a prominent local entrepreneur.

John was one of our first tenants, in what was then known as Causeway Enterprise Agency.

He started out as a one-man band in 1984, and through his business acumen and sheer determination he created the multi-million international business, Armstrong Medical Ltd.

Exporting worldwide to over 60 countries it was a vital source of employment for the area, supporting 320 roles and continually investing in the development of both its products and its team.

The Company suffered a major blow in 2007, when it was devastated by a raging fire. You might remember the headlines…

Over 120 firefighters and 22 fire brigades helped to tackle the blaze. Against the odds, the business recovered, and became stronger than ever, and in 2009, was awarded the prestigious Queens Award for export.

It also won the Millenium Award for its flagship product – Amsorb.

John himself was bestowed an MBE in 2016 for economic development in Northern Ireland.

Armstrong Medical Ltd was successfully sold to Eakin Healthcare Ltd in December 2020.

John holds other Directorship’s and is Chair of Balnamore School Support Group, a local group endeavouring to rebuild the school within the community, and establishing Balnamill Little Learners, a pre-school group.

Outside of being a wonderful ambassador for advancing entrepreneurship and economic activity John is loving family man. He’s been married to Ingrid for 47 years and has four children - Ross, Nigel, Julie and Christopher, and grandfather to eight grandchildren.

Resilience Refined: Strategies to Thrive and Avoid Burnout

The Go Succeed Start team are hosting an in-person workshop at our offices in Coleraine on Wednesday 11th September, 10am – noon.

The session is designed to equip participants with practical tools and techniques to enhance resilience and overcome burnout in business.

The workshop will also offer a supportive environment, where participants can share experiences with others going through the same business journey, gaining insights from their peers and building a network of mutual support.

Introducing you today to Board member Edward Montgomery...

Edward joined our Board, utilising his 28 years’ experience of property management with The Honourable The Irish Society (a grant-giving charity working for the benefit of County Londonderry & neighbouring areas) to financially support some of our key projects and initiatives such as a sponsored pod at The Designerie, allowing for fledgling artists to start and grow their business, as well as an annual Careers Convention at Ulster University, involving over 1,000 schools and colleges and over 50 exhibiting organisations and businesses.

Edward lives in County Antrim, and manages his historic family farm at Benvarden, near Bushmills. Naturally, history and local heritage are things he is extremely passionate about, enjoying being outdoors and working with trees.

Over his life Edward’s also enjoyed a varied career, from an army officer to financial consultant, but charity and property lie at the heart of his skillset and experience.

We’re pretty pumped for August’s Coffee & Connect at ‘Gym of the Year’ - Forge Female Fitness in Ballymoney.

Head Coach Grace Smith lost 156lbs in 12 months.

Having changed her life, she became a Personal Trainer and founded Forge Female Fitness in 2016.

The studio has now grown to an award-winning coaching team of four, who together have lost over 320lbs, specialising in women’s health and wellbeing, including Menopause & Female Hormone Health; coaching hundreds of clients in a beautiful, custom-built, private studio, inside an incredible community of women who feel empowered and unstoppable.

Our special Board features continue, introducing you to Stephen Finlay – a recent addition to the Board last year.

Born and raised in Portstewart, and schooled in Bushmills and Ballymoney, Stephen returned to the North Coast in 2021 to settle, following a career working across multiple locations including England and Canada.

He’s held economic development roles within local and central government, including Director of Corporate Development with Tourism NI, so naturally, place-shaping and local business and community development is a true passion for him.

In 2017 he helped create the 'National Park Experience Collection' initiative across England, supporting SMEs and micro businesses across protected landscapes to develop authentic and unique cultural experience offerings for international markets.

In 2019, he replicated this approach through the development of the new Experience Brand for Northern Ireland – ‘Embrace a Giant Spirit'. This highly successful brand is being utilised to motivate travellers to choose Northern Ireland over competing global destinations, by offering authentic Northern Ireland experiences.

Stephen had a keen desire to join the Board, as he notes:

Let us introduce you to Dr. Mark McKinney…

Managing Director of the ATG Group (a tenant at our Loughanhill site since 1991), Mark has been Director since 2005.

He’s been Chair, Vice Chair and is currently, Treasurer.

Holding a PhD in Microbiology and with a wealth of experience in industry-standard remediation technologies, Mark has been utterly invaluable; from significantly supporting our Bushmills Courthouse project, to championing the installation of solar panels across our sites, generating over 1.3 million kWh of electricity and reducing electricity bills for the small businesses we support.

In 2020, ATG Group received the prestigious Queen's Award for Sustainable Development, a reflection of the leadership and teams efforts across major projects such as Windsor Park, Kingspan Stadium, and the ongoing Casement project, as well as managing the contamination from the Primark fire in Belfast.

Time has certainly flown, but now in our 40th year, we continue to support local businesses and entrepreneurs, and establish/grow sustainable businesses.

We have 2 fabulous art workshops upcoming in Bushmills this August for adults.

Our 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 is taking place on Monday 26th & Tuesday 27th August.

Our 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐜𝐫𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 is taking place on Wednesday 28th & Thursday 29th August.

All workshops run from 9.30am – 2.30pm each day and participants will need to be able to attend the 2 days of their chosen workshop.

Local landscape artist, Sarah Carrington, will be our facilitator.

These fun and creative experiences will help develop your skills, taking inspiration from local landscapes to inspire your very own piece!

If you fancy a fun day with friends, or a little self-love and relaxation, then either workshop is perfect for you.

Good news story 🏛️ ❤️

Such a lovely story to share with you today as we start the process of removing the old Courthouse building from the At-Risk Register.

The Register provides information on properties of architectural or historic merit that are considered to be at risk and was put in place in response to the concern of the growing number of listed buildings, and buildings within Conservation Areas, that were vacant and had fallen into a state of disrepair.

We welcomed Natalie O’Rourke, Senior Conservation Architect of the Historic Environment Division under the Department for Communities to view the refurbished building and the new extension.

We also welcomed Gerard Lidster, who along with Dermot Madden, were our HED points of contact from the Dept throughout the planning and construction process.

The plan is to be removed in September and we will bring you more news on that then.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Rathmullan yesterday with members from Bushmills & Portballintrae Community Association's as part of our Connecting Communities project

We visited Rathmullan Makers Market pop-up market at the pier sheds, meeting several crafters and makers, and danced away to the fantastic talents of local youth band the odysseys 🤘 � �

We had a wonderful lunch at Rathmullan House with a very informative tour of the garden afterwards with the knowledgeable Martin 🌻

We ended the day with some eco-friendly & sustainable screen printing with Sandra from Print Barn Folk who had designed a bespoke keepsake emblem to print on tote bags, for the guys to take home 😄

Thanks to everyone for making us feel so welcome and for providing some really valuable takeaways, and of course, to Claire, the project officer with Rathmullan the Way Forward for helping organise such a lovely day 👏
