EnerPHit House - Planning Approved - JSA Architects The transformation of a modest family home in Derbyshire into a pioneering EnerPHit Home has been approved.

On behalf of Cumbrae Limited and Blue I Properties, JSA Architects have submitted a full planning application for the complete rebuild of a dilapidated city-centre site. Situated on a prominent corner in the University Quarter, ‘Ashbourne Road Apartments' will provide 10 brand-new one-bedroom apartments.

Cumbrae Limited is a Berkshire-based company that specialises in letting owned or leased properties to students, young professionals, and short-medium term tenants. Working with local agents, Blue I Properties, they have been unable to fully occupy the existing building for many years due to its ageing condition and local competition from newly built accommodation.

Brunswood is a fine example of traditional 19th-century rural architecture, but it's laid out like a warren of small dark rooms and needs some sympathetic modernisation.

We're extending to the rear and opening up inside, whilst being careful to retain its unique charm. New red bricks sensitively contrast with the old to highlight the modern intervention and frame a double-height timber-clad stairwell. Sleek Black windows and doors, with a frameless Juliet balcony allow light into the dark spaces and make the most of the views into a large private garden.

😍 PLANNING SUBMITTED 👏

We've submitted plans for a pair of stylish new-build detached dwellings in a trendy area of central Derbyshire.

These new homes, designed as twins, will be built on a large backland site which share a private access road and large driveway. With traditional styling and materials, they will sit comfortably within their setting which is dominated by bespoke pre-1900 buildings, although contemporary twists have been employed to showcase the modern additions; flat-top chimney stacks, frameless Juliet balcony and exaggerated eaves profiles.

Our director Chris Wood has been to visit our development of 9 stylish new affordable homes in Belper this week. They are being built by regional contractor-developers JK Developments and they're flying up! Walls ✔️ Roofs ✔️Windows ✔️ Doors ✔️ and soon onto landscaping.

The site is shared by the recently restored listed Canal Inn, another JSA project, and careful coordination with the different construction teams has been essential throughout.

We've finished proposals for the remodelling of a characterless 1960's detached home, which will become a warm and inviting residence for the new homeowners.

The existing building is large, but lacking in character or kerb appeal, but after injecting it with crisp modern materials and a stylish new addition, it certainly has so much more to offer. Interior spaces are generous which allows the new occupants more flexibility to suit their varied social lifestyle, and a workshop/craftroom caters for their hobbies.

It's been a busy summer for our team, but it's great to see that effort rewarded with another planning approval!

The charming 'Three Horse Shoes' was a former village public house until it was converted to a family dwelling many years ago. The interior layout was not very well considered during its conversion and meant that it wasn't well suited for a modern family to occupy it. JSA were tasked with preparing options that provide a better use of the spaces, as well as seeking approval for much needed repairs and maintenance.

Located in the beautiful rural village of Hemington, the house is located near to multiple listed buildings and so careful consideration of exterior amendments was made. This included replacement windows and a large ornate sun room.

We're excited to start work on the technical drawings and issue the project for tender in a few months' time.

Abbey Yard is a stunning Grade II listed building that will undergo minor yet critical structural alterations. To enable assessment of the works, we've prepared a detailed visual schedule of the proposals and included an explanation of how the works will be carried out.

Stunning replacement timber sash windows offer a 180º panoramic view of the private lawn and increased natural lighting within the generous kitchen. Styling followed a commonplace palette, pairing heritage and bold colours for contrast - a technique also replicated on the ensuite's ornate tiles.

Reclaimed black and yellow checkerboard quarry tiles, originally found in the hallway under modern laminate flooring, now line the pantry making the new hydraulic cellar hatch almost invisible.

Welcome to the former St. Luke's Infant Primary School. Now abandoned, this grade II listed building situated in the Stoke town of Hanley is falling further into disrepair and requires substantial works to bring it back into safe use.

JSA are working with BACE Construction Consultants and Birmingham based developers , to sensitively restore the site. We are acting as lead designers, planning consultants, architects and principal designers for the submission of a robust planning and listed building application.

Interior design choices payed homage to the original Georgian styling of the building itself. A palette of bold heritage colours were complemented by stylish wallpaper to create a stunning contemporary setting that sought to blend with old-world charm.

Features worthy of preservation, including coving and wall panelling, were carefully replicated elsewhere using templating and traditional joinery methods for authenticity.

A heated swimming pool and brand new oak-framed summer house were situated in the private grounds of The Grange. Comprising a changing room with shower and generous dining area with bespoke wood-burning stove, this modern but traditionally designed addition complemented the main house whilst providing valuable family facilities.

The frame was constructed of kiln-dried oak and included a striking fixed gable window and natural slate roof. However, the defining feature was the bespoke brick-built winding chimney integrated seamlessly with the external brick walls.

The outdoor swimming pool was designed and built by Swimming Pool Design and Management Ltd, which included a sophisticated insulated and automated cover to maintain water temperature, and two air source heat pumps.
