My Story

I started programming and creating computer graphics at a very young age supported by my mother artistically and taught by my father in technology and computer programming.

I got sick during my A-Levels and couldn’t complete them due to work overload; s0 I started studying with the Open University to fix the gap in my higher education. After studying computer science courses, arts and mathematics courses and taking a job in a print shop to learn about the design industry I moved on to a trainee web developer position. I learned a lot and went from trainee, to trusted designer/developer within three years. I really loved this job but felt I wanted to do more interactive multimedia so I applied as a mature student to the University of Gloucestershire, Pittville Art Campus to study Design for Interactive Media (animation, web, multimedia, illustration, video etc.)

I started freelancing as a graphic/web designer in 2003 to support myself through university (I already had 3 years industry experience) but it turned out to be something that really suited me.

I have 20 years experience as a Digital Designer and I have been computer programming for more than 30 years!! I specialise in taking a mess and making it into something better. I am an ideas person with hundreds of ideas to make it cheaper, perform better, be more user friendly etc. I watched search engines develop and grow since the beginning of the internet, I understand search engine optimisation and web content from living through it. I was involved in the web before we had any web standards or content management systems and have stayed current with the industry trends the whole time. These days people just 'cook with code' they use modules that other developers wrote and they plug and hack websites together. If you employ me I can do it properly from original code or I can understand what the plugins and addons that you use are actually doing. I have created banking systems, intranets I have worked with government finance sector corporate and small business alike. I wanted to let you guys know what my skills are as on this island many people do not realise that there are fully qualified professionals living right here, you do not need to look in the UK.
