Conductor Gemma New leads Mendelssohn's musical retelling of 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream' featuring the NYCOS Chamber Choir!

Join us on Aug 16 for The BBC Proms at London's Royal Albert Hall for an enchanting evening of music✨

90 concerts across 8 thrilling weeks 🎉 The BBC Proms return, welcoming many of the finest orchestras and artists from across the world!

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra will be back at London's Royal Albert Hall for four fantastic and varied programmes in July and August, including a celebration of milestones in American jazz, concertos for cello and clarinet, and Mendelssohn’s musical retelling of a magical Shakespeare story.

🎧 All Proms are broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Sounds. Plus, our Mendelssohn concert on 16 August will be broadcast on BBC Four and BBC iPlayer.

🎻 25 Jul (Prom 9) – Chief Conductor Ryan Wigglesworth conducts Brahms 3, Schoenberg’s ‘Verklärte Nacht’ and Mahler’s ‘Kindertotenlieder’ featuring mezzo-soprano Alice Coote.

🎶 26 Jul (Prom 10) – Laura van der Heijden performs Cheryl Frances-Hoad's new climate change inspired Cello Concerto and Wigglesworth conducts Elgar’s Second Symphony.

🎷 15 Aug (Prom 35) – Ilan Volkov leads a celebration of milestones from the past 100 years of American jazz, with music by Duke Ellington, Mary Lou Williams and Anthony Braxton. View the full line-up of soloists, including the Aaron Diehl Trio, on our website.

✨ 16 Aug (Prom 36) – Following "an impressive debut" (The Guardian) at last year's BBC Proms, conductor Gemma New returns for Mendelssohn’s musical retelling of Shakespeare’s magical ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, featuring the NYCOS Chamber Choir. Anthony McGill is the soloist for Mozart’s evergreen Clarinet Concerto and there’s music from the French late-Romantic composer Mel Bonis.

Congratulations to NYCOS Alum Matthew Mckinney who won First Prize at The Kathleen Ferrier Awards on Friday!

In 2016, he performed as a soloist during the National Youth Choir of Scotland's US tour, which included the annual Independence Day celebration on the 4th of July in Grant Park, Chicago.

Additionally, Matthew was a soloist on the National Youth Choir of Scotland's recording of Tippett Five Spirituals which was released as part of the Cantos Sagrados CD in 2020.

🎶 Internationally acclaimed conductor Joana Carneiro joins musicians brought together for this Scottish premiere of this poignant work. They are joined by the Schola Cantorum of Venezuela, the National Youth Choir of Scotland and a line-up of soloists from jazz, popular and classical backgrounds.

Last night, after weeks of hard work, we held our Christmas concert at Dundee Parish Church (St Mary'S). It was lovely to have so many friends and family with us to hear some fabulous singing in such a wonderful setting! A huge ‘well done’ to all our choir members! 🌟

Today marks 3 weeks since a group of our Senior Choir took part in Verdi’s ‘Aida’ with Opera Festival Scotland at the Caird Hall. It was a fantastic experience for our young people to be part of!
