I absolutely loved listening to Gabor Mate on Saturday and his wisdom around "When the Body Says No" - how our minds and bodies cannot be seperated. They are one system. I know both from my own journey and working with my clients who are experiencing anxiety, stress and physical pain is that one common personality trait that can show up is people pleasing..... Gabor also shared that 80% of people experiencing auto immune conditions are women. I don't think that comes as much of a shock really when we look at pressures women can be under from society, culture and self-induced based on past experiences.

✨ The People-Pleasing Trait 🌟This can show up as finding it hard to say "no" to others, even when it means sacrificing your own time, energy, or well-being. Worrying about what others think of you, seeking their approval and validation.

While it's wonderful to be caring and considerate, constantly prioritising others' needs and opinions can lead to living in stress.

🌪️ The Stress Connection 🌪️
Connecting the dots: When you're constantly saying "yes" to others, you're often saying "no" to yourself. This can lead to physical symptoms, anxiety, and even burnout. 😩

🚦 Breaking Free 🚦
Recognizing the connection between people-pleasing and stress is the first step toward breaking free from this cycle. It's important to remember that it's okay to prioritize self-care and set boundaries. 🛁🧘‍♀️

Here are a few tips to help you navigate this journey:
1️⃣ Practice self-awareness: Reflect on your actions and intentions.
2️⃣ Learn to say "no": This can feel uncomfortable to begin with
3️⃣ Set boundaries: Establish limits to protect your well-being.
4️⃣ Seek support

One of the questions we were asked to consider by Gabor was "Where in your life do you find it difficult to say no?" It's a really important question and just be curious to what comes up. The first step to change is always awareness. Ultimately as we learn to say no, the body then doesn't need to speak for us.
