What Do You Want First? The Bad News or the Good News?!
Did you know…?
More than 75% of people over the age of 55 show the joint deformations of Osteoarthritis on X-rays!
Luckily, most of these people have no symptoms
But…for some people, osteoarthritis can cause joint pain and stiffness, really affecting sufferers’ daily lives. 😔
The bad news is there’s no cure for it. The good news?
It’s a very treatable disease.✅
Our goals of treatment at Premier Physio are to relieve your pain and to improve or maintain the movement of your joints, so visit us online at www.premier-physio.co.uk, check out our page or give us a call to book an assessment ... 0191 597 7536

When should I see a physio? 🤷🏻♂️
As funny as it sounds, a lot of patients have no idea whether they should come in or not to get that ‘niggling’ injury looked at
If in doubt… message the page or give us a ring 👍🏻

📚The neck or cervical spine includes seven vertebrae that are separated by six fibrocartilaginous intervertebral discs. The discs act as shock absorbers and also function as passive stabilizers of the spinal motion segment (2 vertebrae and the disc between them).
🔎This real-time MRI showcases flexion and extension of the upper cervical spine (think of the ‘yes’ movement) and is a great visual tool for observing our anatomy in action!

Anybody who claims they can treat your frozen shoulder quickly are simply lying. Frozen shoulder takes its own time to get better
Typically the condition has 3 phases: Freezing stage lasts from 2 to 9 months. Frozen stage lasts from 4 to 12 months. Thawing stage lasts from 5 to 24 months.
Physio can help relieve the symptoms, to maintain improvement, and possibly shorten the time of each phase, but it can’t ‘cure’ the condition
Unfortunately this Winter the UK is experiencing a higher number of cases of group A strep, compared to usual.
Strep A is usually nothing to be too concerned out - the bacteria causes a mild infection which is treatable with antibiotics, but in rare situations the bacteria enters the blood stream and can lead to a more serious illness called iGAS (invasive group A streptococcal).
Group A Strep can cause not only a throat infection, but also leads to scarlet fever or skin infections such as cellulitis or impetigo.
As a parent, if you feel that your child seems seriously unwell, you should trust your own judgement. Contact NHS 111 or your GP if:
❗️your child is getting worse
❗️your child is feeding or eating much less than normal
❗️your child has had a dry nappy for 12 hours or more or shows other signs of dehydration
❗️your baby is under 3 months and has a temperature of 38°C, or is older than 3 months and has a temperature of 39°C or higher
❗️your baby feels hotter than usual when you touch their back or chest, or feels sweaty
❗️your child is very tired or irritable
Call 999 or go to A&E if:
❗️your child is having difficulty breathing – you may notice grunting noises or their tummy sucking under their ribs
❗️there are pauses when your child breathes
❗️your child’s skin, tongue or lips are blue
❗️your child is floppy and will not wake up or stay awake

💥PAIN SCALES💥
Measuring pain is something Physio’s often do to gauge improvement before/after treatment, but I think some patients fail to grasp how difficult it is to truly give an accurate answer.
The most often used method is a 1-10 numeric scale which can be hard to define!
I found this version recently and found it funny yet interesting as it tries to give the numbers some meaning and definition.

If you have osteoarthritis, you should know these 3 things:
1. The pain you are feeling may not be from the joint but from tight, weak structures AROUND the joint.
2. Arthritis tends to flare up, but it also calms down.
3. Arthritis can stabilize and even get slightly better!
