HOWDEN GRASSROOTS HERO COMPETITION! 🦸

In partnership with Hiscox Insurance, Howdens have launched a competition aimed at celebrating grassroots sports and supporting clubs - running from today until Friday 24th May!

Entrants will have a chance of winning £500 to invest in their club, and our two runners-up will each receive £250 for their club - simply by nominating a volunteer at their sports club for the hard work they've been putting in.

First game as a (nearly) full Retford squad and what a feeling!! The ground was rock hard, the sun was bearing down and yet here we are, a year down the line from our first training sesh, smiling and bloody proud of ourselves. Gowan the gals!! 👏🔰💪

A huge congrats to our U15s for their last game of the season yesterday, despite a strong performance throughout, Worksop Rugby Club managed to achieve a win with a close final score of Retford 22 - Worksop 24. Well done, lads, great effort!! 🔰🔰🔰 Full report below 👇

With the weather causing a last minute change of venue, East Retford hosted Worksop under 15s for what will be our final fixture for the season.

With the whistle blowing it was Retford who started the stronger side, with electrifying runs from scrum half Rick and powerful carries from Jayden. Retford raced into an early two try lead. Excellent work in defence from all of Retford's players kept the visitors at bay for long periods.

There followed an hour of great end to end rugby with well worked scores for both sides. As the clock ran down, the tries kept coming, both for Retford and Worksop. With just a few minutes to go, tired legs caused a couple of missed tackles and Worksop were able to sneak another try and take the lead. But the Retford boys rallied and pushed back, with some outstanding attacking play. Just as it looked certain that they would retake the lead, the ball spilled forwards giving a scrum to Worksop as the clock ran red and the game was over. Final score Retford 22 - Worksop 24.

It was a truly exciting game to watch for everyone who braved the rain. Each and every single player gave their all and they truly embody everything that makes rugby great. Excellent team work and respect from both sides. The coaches, parents and the club as a whole are proud of our lads!

Man of the match goes to Rick at scrum half, for his visionary play. Finding gaps where there seemed to be none.

A body has been recovered in the search for a teenager who went missing five weeks ago.

Specialist teams have been carrying out extensive land and water searches after Jacob Crompton was reported missing on Sunday 24 March.

The 19-year-old had been on a night out in Retford town centre but failed to return home.

Sadly, a body was found in the River Idle, north of Retford, on Saturday morning (27 April).

Whilst formal identification has yet to take place, Jacob’s family has been informed of the development.

Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Scott, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Jacob’s family have been informed of this very sad development and our thoughts are with them at what I know will be an extremely difficult time.

“I would like to thank all those members of the public for sharing our appeal, and for the support and assistance they have given to our officers on the ground.

“Although our searches have concluded, officers are continuing to work to establish the full circumstances surrounding Jacob’s disappearance.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
