Hever Castle Golf Club Members Paul, Chris, Gordon and Peter are taking on the Longest Day Golf Challenge for MacMillan Cancer Support representing the WET Golfers Society on July 3rd 2024.

They will be hoping to complete 72 holes in between sun up and sun set - previous years have proven it can be done, but only just! They each have their own motivation for taking part, recognising the fantastic work MacMillan does supporting people and their families affected by cancer.

In the grounds of Hever Castle Golf & Wellbeing are two bee hives which have been naturally populated by bees, potentially adding thousands of bees into the local habitat.

Head greenkeeper Rob Peers originally built the hives around 10 years ago, Rob said: “If you have a couple of swarms a year that’s 100,000 bees into the local environment. It’s a great litmus test, if you use too many chemicals you won’t get bees.”

The hives are located behind the greenkeeper’s storage in an area of woodland, with a nearby pond and ornamental trees.

Carolyn Swan, Lady Captain at Hever Castle Golf & Wellbeing is aiming to take on 18 golf courses in one day, playing a hole at each one and cycling the 72 miles between them.

Carolyn is setting off at 5am on Monday 17th June from Hever and intends to return 16 hours later.

She said: “My challenge is to raise money for a very worth well cause, Mental Health Resource in Tunbridge wells, which is local to the golf club. So many people suffer with mental health, the subject is still very taboo especially in men. I want to raise awareness and get people talking – and donating – to this worthwhile cause.”

Royal Troon may have the longest hole in Open history when the Ayrshire links plays host to the 152nd championship in July, but the 17th at Hever is even longer! This 644 yard par 5 is one of the longest in the UK. Are you up for the challenge?

Hever Castle Golf Club is looking to recruit an enthusiastic Chef de Partie to work within our small but busy team, providing a quality food service to our golf visitors, members and guests. You must be flexible with working hours and be able to work weekends and evenings.
