A recent survey from TES has revealed a concerning trend in the education sector: our workforce is increasingly stressed and unhappy 😞

📊The survey found that the number of education staff reporting that their workplace has a negative impact on their wellbeing has significantly increased by 38% since 2020. This is a worrying development that highlights the urgent need for more support for teachers.

📉The survey also found that the number of staff saying that their workplace has a positive impact on their wellbeing has declined. This suggests that the factors that contribute to a positive work environment, such as emotionally intelligent leadership, adequate resources, and work life balance, are in decline.

❤️‍🩹The current situation is not sustainable. Our education workforce is facing immense pressure, and this is taking a toll on their mental health and wellbeing.

In order for things to change we must:

Prioritise mental health and wellbeing 🧠
Provide training and resources to help educators manage stress and cope with difficult situations.

Create a supportive work environment 🌱
Encourage open communication, promote teamwork, and provide opportunities for professional development.

Develop emotionally intelligent leaders 🫶
Ensure that leaders understand how to look after their own wellbeing so that they are better placed to support others and provide an environment that promotes wellbeing for all.

At the Wellbeing Training Academy, we recognise the importance of addressing these issues head-on. We believe that every educator deserves to feel supported, valued, and equipped to handle the challenges of their profession.

We offer a range of services to help teachers to manage stress, improve their mental health, and create a more fulfilling work-life balance. Some of these services include:

Stress management workshops
Emotional Intelligence training
Leadership coaching

We encourage all educators to prioritise their wellbeing. By taking care of yourselves, you can better take care of your students and create a positive learning environment for everyone.

5 ways international students can harness emotional intelligence to deal with COVID-19 stress

https://theconversation.com/5-ways-international-students-can-harness-emotional-intelligence-to-deal-with-covid-19-stress-159882

COVID-19 has drastically changed education for millions of university students around the world. International students are a vulnerable population group with unique challenges. Away from their home countries or at a distance from their universities, they have been significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beyond concerns about themselves and loved ones due to the virus, international students have worried about things like visa and graduation status, optional practical training opportunities being harder to obtain or cancelled or whether to go home (if that is even an option due to border closures). Some have worried about living far from loved ones, having to find a place to live if dormitories close, self-isolating from roommates if necessary and finances.

My preliminary research has examined the lived experiences of international graduate students in Ontario, and government and university policies pertaining to international students. My findings to date suggest that international students can be better supported by their institutions to cope with their personal and emotional challenges that may become compounded during public crises.

I have also explored models that institutions could rely on to support students’ emotional well-being. This has led me to consider how international students might turn to the toolkit of emotional intelligence.

Emotional intelligence is key to a better marriage

https://www.newsday.co.zw/2021/10/success-life-emotional-intelligence-is-key-to-a-better-marriage/

Marriage is an institution that is under serious trouble. People walk into marriage without scars but come out with emotional scars. In marriage, emotions, and feelings are at play. When two people don’t understand those emotions, a negative spark will start.

In the last two decades, the subject of emotional intelligence has grown with more scholars doing more research on it. Daniel Goleman, is literally considered the father of emotional intelligence after he wrote extensively on the subject.

Emotional intelligence is one subject that must be taught to individuals and in our school system because research is coming with more evidence that it is becoming more powerful than IQ.

IQ can get you grades at school, but it is in emotional intelligence where you learn how to manage yourself and others.

El padre de la inteligencia emocional dice que es más necesaria que nunca 23/10/2021

The Father of Emotional Intelligence Says It's More Needed Than Ever

Madrid, Oct 23 (EFE) .- "We need emotional intelligence more than ever" because "we have more challenges than at any other time in the past," warns the American psychologist and writer Daniel Goleman in relation to the covid, which has been the "invisible enemy" for the mental health of millions of people in the world.

Goleman, considered the father of emotional intelligence, does not believe that this concept has become trivial, "but it can be trivialized, if it is used improperly," he explains in an interview with EFE.

"There are people who sell something they call 'emotional intelligence' and it has nothing to do with it," reproaches Goleman, who participated this week in the fourth edition of enlightED, a world conference in Madrid on education, technology and innovation, organized by Fundación Telefónica, IE University and South Summit.
