As a company, we are actively campaigning and alerting our audiences to new campaigns for climate change and this is one of the most shocking from our friends Friends of the Earth Scotland click the link to find out more!
Shell wants to open a new gas field in the North Sea.
Jackdaw won't lower bills or make our energy more secure. But it will produce pollution equal to half of Scotland's annual emissions.
We need real solutions to the energy & climate crisis, not more gas fields.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST!! KRIS!
Kris' costume is inspired by a deep sea skate, these creatures are similar to stingrays and have many different species some of which can be found off the shore of our local beaches. Skates breathe through spiracles by their head allowing them to lie on the floor of the ocean and still receive oxygen. This costume out of them all is the most decorative and has many little trinkets attached including keys and toggles. Throughout the design there are many triangles to represent the shape of the skate itself, including the silhouette of the costume.
The makeup design for this character uses a colour pallet of purples and greens, complimenting the costume. We have created these markings on Kris' neck to emulate the spiracles.

WHAT ELSE HAVE WE GOT? WELL WE HAVE A TESS!!
Tess's costume is inspired by a yeti crab, this creature similar to the giant tube worms, thrives on hydrothermic vents. These crabs grow to about 15 cm and eat the bacteria that they grow on their on legs.
To incorporate the animal into the costume, delaney has created these beautiful furry sweater sleeves to imitate the crabs claws. For Tess' makeup, we use a mix of blue and white to bring out the dark navy's in the costume.

WHOSE'S NEXT....... JO
Jo's costume is inspired by deep-sea anemones; these creatures are most famously an abode for clownfish. There are over 1000 different species of anemones that can be found worldwide but they are most commonly found in tropical seas, even though some have adapted to cold arctic waters.
Delaney created this beautiful blue fringing to imitate the tentacles on the anemone and then for the makeup we used pinks and light purples to compliment the colours found in the costume.

FIRST UP!!!
Dani's costume is inspired by giant tube worms these are huge invertebrae that can grow up to 8 feet and strive on hydrothermal vents. Delaney created a silhouette that was inspired by 1970s UK fisherman attire, hence the knit wear. To make this, even more, eco friendly, we made sure that all material was sustainably sourced.
We then created makeup that complimented the costumes' colours mixing browns and reds, to complete the look.

Oh yeah, our costumes are INSANE!!
All thanks to the amazing Delaney Tesch, see the next couple of posts for an in-depth look at each character, but for now a few words from Delaney.
"As the play takes place at the bottom of the newly risen ocean, I took inspiration from animals typically found on the deep sea floor: namely the yeti crab, giant tube worms, and the deep sea anemone and skate. The costumes also use vintage ocean-based workwear silhouettes, including inspiration from 1970s UK fishermen and oil-rig workers. All the costume pieces are sourced secondhand and custom-made or altered to reflect visual characteristics of the animal that is assigned to each character"

This weekend was great! Sunshine, barbecues, and getting a great tan!
But let's not forget that this is actually a sign of the gross global warming our planet is suffering from. The earth is heating up. The difference between fifty years ago and now is undeniable.
Enjoy the positives of these hot days, but keep in mind that these are warning signs of something much more sinister.
Think about the ways you can help in the fight against climate change!
And of course, come and see our show Beneath, which warns about what will happen if we continue to do nothing:

In honour of 🌎EARTH DAY 🌎, we have decided to do a post a day that involves a few words from each member of our team in regards to global warming.
Our Fringe 2022 debut show, BENEATH, raises awareness of environmental issues like climate change. As a company we feel it is important, now more than ever, for theatre to use its voice to raise awareness of very ampt social issues.
Now to kick of our weekly earth day posts, here are a few words from our Director (who you will soon meet… so keep your eyes peeled 👀), Karin Saari:
“What I find fascinating about Beneath is that it is set in a time when the option to take action against climate change has passed and instead shows us the consequences of inaction. There are lessons to be learned from Beneath but it is never pedantic. I think it’s a beautiful, entertaining and important piece of theatre and I’m honoured to have been asked to direct it.”
Alongside a few words from our team, each team member will also being doing a wee charity shoutout. Karin has chosen Raincoast Conservation Foundation.
Raincoast is a conservation foundation from Karins home country, Canada - specifically, Victoria, BC.
“Raincoast is a team of scientists and conservationists empowered by our research to safeguard the land, waters, and wildlife of coastal British Columbia. We investigate to understand coastal species and processes. We inform by bringing science to decision-makers and communities. We inspire action to protect wildlife and wildlife habitats.”
