After a summer break, we're back with a bang, showcasing a brilliant lineup of Argentinian and Spanish films like MARTYR GIRL, LIONEL, FLESH AND BLOOD, THE TREATMENT, and EVEN THOUGH IT'S NIGHT TIME (Goya Winner, 2024). Expect a great sense of humor, a touch of reality, and intriguing religious themes. Plus, these shorts and more will be screened at St Peter's Hall on the 21st of September. That was it! Another season over. Thank you so much to everyone coming last Sunday to the specially to Isabel Restrepo, and Jose Rojas Navea.

We are looking forward to a well earned rest and already making plans for next season starting on the 22nd of September. In the meantime you can still come to our free monthly events at Craigmillar and Morningside libraries.

José Rojas, a Chilean musician and researcher, has established a vibrant career in Scotland since 2017, primarily focusing on percussion, music facilitation, and electronic music. In his role as a facilitator, Jose is involved in various projects, including “Musician in Exile,” where he serves as a tutor. He has conducted workshops with organizations such as Shunpike Social Club from OI Musica and Creative Spark Theatre Arts.

His contributions extend to the Dandelion Festival 2022, where he served as a musician in residence, and the project “From The SUR,” collaborating with dancer Andrea Torres and Pianodrome to provide instrument crafting and percussion sessions. As a percussionist, Jose has been part of several bands including Brizz (formerly Bristol Branch band), Ché Caré Trio, The Latina Turners Salsa Band, Los Chichanos, and The Other. Beyond the UK, he has collaborated with En Tu Contra from Chile and composed for “Casi,” directed by Gabriel Ávila in France. Additionally, Jose ventured into electronic music production, releasing his first production titled “Fuera de Sitio” through Pueblo Nuevo Netlabel in 2020.

José will be performing a musical score to accompany our screening this Sunday at Leith Dockers Club.

📣 Join us for a memorable evening as we close our season programme and the Latin Connections Film Festival with a FREE event at one of Leith’s most cherished communal spaces: Leith Dockers Club.

Submerged Memories includes two distinct films: El PEÑOL, 1978: An Unfinished and Silent Film by Carlos Álvarez & Alberto Aguirre (Colombia, 1978, 16 mm, Silent), featuring live musical accompaniment by José Rojas, & EL RECUERDO DE LOS ÚLTIMOS (Memories of the Last to Leave) by Simone Cardona (Colombia, 2023). 🎞️

The event also features a Q&A with Isabel Restrepo, historian and film preservation expert, followed by music and drinks. 🍷 🫔

Providing medical aid to Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees For over 30 years, Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) has been reaching out to Palestinian communities, striving to deliver health and medical care to those worst affected by conflict, occupation and displacement.

Who said you can’t get an audience on a sunny day. Thank you to everyone who came and in particular to the Protest in Harmony for making it so special.
