Karen Anderson is a founding partner of Anderson Bell + Christie. Alongside her impressive career in practice and architectural education, she has also shared her skills and experience more widely over the years – including as former Chair of Architecture and Design Scotland - A&DS, and as current Chair of Wasps Artists' Studios. She is also a founding partner of 'hirta', whose work supports young and emerging Scottish designers.

As we continue to welcome our Doolan Award judging panel for 2024, today, we're thrilled to introduce our jury chair - London-based architect and educator, David Kohn!

David founded his practice, David Kohn Architects, in 2007 and is currently working on major education and arts projects in the UK and Europe. Recent residential projects, the Red House and Cowshed, won the Royal Institute of British Architects House of the Year 2022 and the Architects’ Journal Manser Medal House of the Year 2023. In addition to his in-practice work, he teaches at the Architectural Association School of Architecture.

Maryse Richardson worked for the RIAS for 20 years, leading the Practice Department and RIAS flagship Practice Services for 10 years. After working in education, translation and business support administration, she joined the RIAS in 2003. Gary Jebb is the former Director of Place at the The University of Edinburgh having initially joined the University as Director of Estates in 2014. He has considerable experience in the delivery of estates projects and facilities management, together with the development of strategic estate proposals. Under his leadership, the University of Edinburgh worked with around 50 different architectural practices in any given year, and his work translating the University’s academic vision into reality includes the redevelopment of the Edinburgh Futures Institute. Gary also sits on the board of Historic Environment Scotland

Introducing our RIAS Councillor Holly Bruce

Holly was elected to Glasgow City Council in 2022, becoming one of the youngest women to serve on the council. She represents the Scottish Green Party and is vice-chair of the Environment and Liveable Neighbourhoods Committee. Holly is an intersectional feminist activist and in 2022 successfully lobbied her colleagues to commit Glasgow City Council to embed a feminist town planning approach into its city development plan.

Lynn Wilson, circular economy researcher, business consultant and the founder of Circular Design Synergy

Dr Lynn Wilson is based in the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow, where she is Adam Smith Research Fellow. Her research investigates consumer behaviour and the transition to the circular economy.

From 2013 -2017 she was Sector Manager - Manufacturing, Circular Economy team at Zero Waste Scotland, contributing to Making Things Last – A Circular Economy Strategy for Scotland. Prior to this she was Head of Development at PAS where she led on community and education engagement.
