The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo will take place 1 – 23 August 2025.
For both Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day the castle will stand illuminated in red at night.
The castle will be floodlit red tonight and tomorrow night (Sun 10 and Mon 11 Nov) for Poppyscotland
Please note that on both days there will also be a gun fired from the castle to mark the period of reflection at 11am.
Today we reflect on the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces heroes in Britain and the Commonwealth and commemorate all who have lost their lives in times of conflict.

Thankfully, Thistle Shoes Scotland are on hand to ensure no dancer goes without a pair.
Our name originates from the 17th Century Dutch phrase ‘do den tap toe’ and refers to an evening drum or bugle signal used to recall soldiers to their quarters.
Drawing inspiration from this, our Royal Gallery Reception includes a solo drummer performing their version of ‘doe den tap toe’ to bring the evening to a close.
