We are delighted to unveil our proposals for the regeneration of Leith Custom House along with Scottish Historic Buildings Trust (SHBT).
The proposals include a landmark hybrid-use space incorporating Scotland's first fully digital museum.
The scheme aims to deliver 'a town square for the twenty-first century', by transforming the Category A-listed Georgian building into a fully accessible and sustainable culture and heritage destination in the heart of Leith. The ground floor comprises a series of community-creative studios available for working artists and makers, along with events and conference space for hire. Commercial and retail opportunities will ensure a sustainable future for the building, with Custom Lane opened up as a thriving eating and drinking destination, linking the Shore with Dock Place and Victoria Quay.
Eight dedicated exhibition rooms on the first floor will house the digital museum, harnessing the potential of digital display technology, these spaces will create a limitless range of exhibitions co-curated by community groups, guest curators, specialists and even members of the public.
The plans go on display at Leith Custom House from Friday 23rd August until Friday 6th September during the Open House: Leith Custom House Festival, as part of the city's Edinburgh 900 celebrations. The Gallery is open to all, so please go and have your say.

Some images of our proposal for a new house at Blenheim Place.
The site, currently derelict land, sits between Greenside Parish Church and the office building at no.12 Blenheim Place. From the street, the house appears to be an anonymous single storey ashlar wall continuing the plinth of the adjacent church but from the garden to the south the house is two storeys with all the rooms facing south. Living spaces on the upper level are arranged around a roof terrace. The project has been submitted for planning permission.

Happy Birthday to DCA, 25 today! 🎉🎈🍾
Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre opened on the 19th of March 1999.
The site was originally a garage workshop which had lain derelict, the overall aim of the design was to group all of the activities; galleries, cinemas, print workshops, shop and research facilities around a central social space and café. The building partially reuses the brick warehouse of the former MacLeans Garage, and forms an “L” shaped plan on a site which falls 3 storeys from front to back. The café and foyer sit at the internal corner of this “L” and therefore form the heart of the building.
Upon opening, the Sunday Times observed “It is one of the most satisfying, sublime and stylish public buildings opened in years”. Since its opening the building has been a phenomenal success attracting more than three times the number of visitors expected.
Here’s to another 25 years! 🎉🎈🍾
