Rhian's Yoga
I believe that yoga can and should be practiced anywhere and I aim to banish barriers to anyone want
Technically it’s still the 12th night so technically I haven’t missed the window to wish everyone a happy Christmas and New Year. So there you go.
I should write something thoughtful/ motivation/ a quote/ a commitment but I won’t. I don’t really make resolutions on a yearly basis, more as and when life needs them. I can’t commit to anything specific (more than I already am) and I’m not going to go on about what I’m “passionate” about. Passion is fleeting and I’m, well, not.
So for anyone who cares/ wonders, I’ll just be here doing not very sexy yet practical yoga and eating a lot.
Oh and I ran the 7 hills of Edinburgh today so calves are cramping - try this if you feel the same.
year
This years home made sloe gin with a hint of cardamom, Christmas lights, a Mordi and a cat on the tv
I did a yoga. Finally.
Post run on the beach hip stretch.

Morning yoga in bed. Pre coffee and run. Sped up clearly - held each pose for about 5 breaths, knees soft throughout, dog eternally impatient. I also made the bed which is not part of the sequence but definitely necessary.
up
Started to lead my class through this little transition to bird of paradise (after a lot of shoulder and hip openers) and realised I hate it. So there we go.
Coffee, yoga, fish tacos with sweet potato tortilla, beetroot slaw and avocado dressing. In that order.
Post teaching playing around before I got pushed out so the floor could be cleaned. It’s hot in there.
See? Sometimes I do do a yoga.
Only in pretty places
Birthdays spent eating large quantities of hot from the oven olive bread, strong coffee, cheap wine and a small hike up to a fortress are the best. I did some yoga but was too busy eating bread at the same time to take a picture so you’ll have to trust me on this
Not so much bright eyed and bushy tailed as just bushy haired.
I’ve neglected my yoga a little bit lately, and I think I needed to. But it’s there like an old friend waiting for me to catch-up up. Easing myself back into my own routine and grounding with possibly my favourite little pose for hips and lower back
**QUICK QUESTION**
Maybe.
I have an opportunity to run a yoga retreat in a gorgeous spot in France, between Toulouse and Bordeaux at the end of September / early October. 7 days, a tonne of beautiful yoga, mindfulness, hikes, wine, wine tastings excellent local vegetarian and vegan food (appreciate there is a saucisson in the picture), movie nights, sun and relaxation all in a gorgeous surround. 8 places.
Would anyone be interested is October too soon?
Shout for specifics and share with your friends. Xx 🍷🧘🏾♂️🧘🏽♀️
Need a bit of a push? Hit me up (not literally). Individual and small groups.
When I was little I wanted to go to ballet classes but my dad sent me to Welsh Country dancing instead. I solely blame this for my lack of choreographic flow skills (in my head I look like Darcy Bussell). No class this Friday as I will be eating my ample body weight in hot cross buns
Uninspired but necessary morning flow to get through the day, all the spinal twists and none of the anything else. This is my yoga practice.
It has been a somewhat testing week, it isn’t even Friday and I feel a huge amount of tension squishing down on my chest and collecting in my shoulders. So in between screaming silently at a laptop I did this little shoulder tease and chest opener - though I think I prefer the term heart expander. I’d recommend holding each pose much longer than I’ve shown here for a better effect but be gentle on your spines. Friday students - expect this Friday night (mats still available).
**Co**se pose restores life. Dead parts of your being fall away, the ghosts are released** Terri Guillemets.
Don’t usually do the whole quote thing but I love this. It’s so important in my practice to let things go... so I can let s**t go in real life (read that as not resorting to violent acts).
So come join me on the mat, Friday, release the week and start afresh. 6.30pm-7.30pm, OMH Therapies, Edinburgh
L A D I E S!!
You know those days when you have the WORST period pains and you know what you need to do is lie on the floor with legs up the wall in a dark room but can’t because you have to go into the office and lying on the toilet floor is frowned upon but you have to do something before you kill an esteemed colleague? This flow (‘scuse the pun) is for you.
Down dog against the wall to lengthen our that cramped torso and standing twists. The final pose is a standing forward fold with knees bent to allow you to rest on your thighs and is the closest I could get to a child’s pose without my face on a public floor. (Men - in the interests of inclusivity, this is great for a mini destress as well).
Come flow with me on a Friday. Move the stress and float into the weekend. There’s a great wine bar across the road if you need extra incentive. OMH Therapies, 6.30-7.30. Every Friday.
Stressful day. A little distress for the spine. Morning or night. I held / breathed for a lot longer - maybe 5-10 breaths. Resting forward fold on a pillow or dog as applicable. Will be doing g something similar on Friday night at OMH Therapies 6.30. But on a mat and not my bed
Nothing like a tight door frame for a cheeky back stretch post run but can’t be bothered doing a full yoga flow.
Using my trusty Dharma wheel to get a bit more opening in my back before I even attempt to any actual wheels unsupported. Running, weights and not spending enough time on the yoga is tightening everything up - just trying to find the balance
Calligraphy. Moving the energy across the lines
It’s snowing so I should be doing but it’s too cold for that. Instead a little light stretching to stop everything freezing over internally and externally in my thermal top and pants. Too cold for sexy as well. Just bringing the internal fire
Sometimes I haven’t a clue what I’m doing teaching yoga and forget to do my own practice: so my resolution if you’ll indulge me just once here, is to commit to a short yoga practice for myself everyday. Keeps me grounded init? Plenty of great classes in Edinburgh but using the very brilliant and accessible home practice of 30 day True challenge. And you should too but I imagine most of my followers are already...
Starting the new year strong (I actually had a slight hangover and there was a lot of child’s pose before this happened but the point is, I started 2018 with positive intentions). You can also come and do something nice every Friday - a little gentle yoga with me
And on whatever day of Christmas my aching body gave to me - the need for a skaters pose to stretch out my cramped old legs. Have incorporated a lot of walking into this city break which is great for the heart and the eyes, less so for my feet and calves.
Planes, trains and Christmas puds have left me feeling all out of whack so readdressing the balance with my favourite eagle pose. A combination of strength, grounding, twisting and balance it’ll see me right. Hips so tight I can’t sink very deep and shoulders creaking but it felt good.
Me, my balance and my dharma wheel have not been getting on so well lately so dedicated a whole 20 minutes to them today. As you can see I’m getting a much better glute stretch in the first picture with a little help from my mate Paul the Wall and hammering my core hard as I try to balance for the nano second it takes to take a picture minus the wall. Practice.... practice
Congratulations to Sandy McGhie the winner of our 4 class pack giveaway. Enjoy 4 weeks of gentle flow before Christmas or save them to kick start a New Years resolution!!!!
