Judo isn’t just about throws and pins; it’s a martial art grounded in respect, courtesy, and discipline. Here are some essential Judo etiquette principles we uphold on and off the mat:
1️⃣ Bow with Respect: The traditional bow (rei) signifies respect for your sensei, training partners, and the art itself. It’s a silent gesture of gratitude and honor.
2️⃣ Cleanliness is Key: Keep your gi (uniform) and yourself clean. For example, wash your gi regularly and keep your nails cut. It’s a sign of respect for your fellow Judoka and the dojo environment.
3️⃣ Mind Your Language: Maintain a respectful and positive attitude during practice. In Judo, words carry weight, just like actions.
4️⃣ Fair Play: Treat your training partners with fairness and equality. In Judo, we learn together, and everyone deserves respect.
5️⃣ Control and Safety: Prioritize safety in every technique. Proper control of your throws and holds ensures the well-being of all.
6️⃣ Listen and Learn: Respect your coach’s instructions. Listening attentively is a way of showing respect for their wisdom and experience.
7️⃣ Humble in Victory, Graceful in Defeat: Winning and losing are part of the journey. Whether you win or lose, maintain humility and respect for your opponent.
