Over the past year, we have been sharing updates with you on ELF supporter Jess Green, who set herself the daunting mission of completing 12 physical challenges over 12 months. We are delighted to confirm that Jess completed her final challenge last week, climbing Ben Nevis alongside her family.

"Challenge 12! Dad started the week with a night in hospital and ended it by reaching the summit of Ben Nevis on Saturday. That marks the end of the 12 months and having a family trip to Scotland was a perfect way to finish off the fundraising, as they have been the greatest cheerleaders throughout. Thank you to all of those that have donated and supported the last 12 months ❤️"

Jess has raised an amazing £2,225.00 for ELF through her challenges. Our thanks for her incredible efforts and congratulations Jess upon all that you have achieved! As ELF's Transport Service supports people from all over Devon, our drivers have been taking in the sights on their patient journeys this summer. Here's the cars in Seaton and at Powderham Castle in the sunshine!

Our Transport Service, sponsored by JMC Aviation, provides vital lifts for patients to and from their appointments at the Haematology Centre, removing the stress of the journey and the worry of where to park. If you require their assistance, please call 01392 493344 (option 1).

Local swimmer raises over £1,000 for ELF in memory of stepson 09/08/2024

Earlier this year, Alan Skilton challenged himself to swim 20 miles over 12 weeks at his local swimming pool in Okehampton. Alan's goal was to raise £1,000 for ELF in memory of his stepson Benjamin Jacobs, who sadly passed away in 2023 following a blood cancer diagnosis.

We were delighted to celebrate Alan's success alongside members of the Parklands Leisure Centre team. Including Gift Aid, Alan raised an impressive £1,038 to ensure that ELF can help other families affected by blood cancer in our community.

Last weekend, the family of Conor Jones hosted a fundraising BBQ in his memory as part of ELF's Summer Tea Party campaign.

A huge thank you to Conor's nan Valerie Burns for hosting the BBQ, his mum Hayley, his aunt Kellie and to all the family for their incredible support. They hosted a wonderful event in the summer sunshine which has raised an amazing £4,126.00 for ELF.

"On 27th December we lost our beloved Conor to blood cancer. He had just turned 31 years old. Conor made this world a better place with his kindness, hard work and passion for animals and the environment. He was a gentle and loving person and we couldn't be prouder of him. ELF helped Conor in many ways throughout his treatment, so our fundraiser is our way of saying a massive ‘Thank you’ to them for the support they gave him and continue to give to others suffering with Leukaemia and blood cancers"

Rachel Kelly celebrated her 30th birthday in style on Saturday by completing a 15,000ft skydive for ELF!

"I'd wanted to do a skydive for years, and what better way to do it than by raising money for an amazing local charity at the same time. ELF is close to my heart as they have helped 2 very special men in my life. Firstly my Dad many years ago and, more recently, my husband's wonderful Grandad Brian Kelly in his final months."

Many happy returns Rachel and thank you for raising an amazing £660 to ensure that ELF is on hand to support other families affected by blood cancer.

Congratulations to all of ELF’s 50km and 25km walkers at the weekend! We had 3 teams tackling the South West Ultra Challenge and collectively they have raised an incredible £6,750 to support families affected by blood cancer. Heroes all!

Andy from ELF was one of those who took part:
“On behalf of the teams, a huge thank you to everyone who sponsored us. We had an amazing day - the Exmoor scenery was stunning, the hills were big and there were smiles and sore feet in equal measure at the finish line!”

There are different Ultra Challenge routes across the UK. If you fancy tackling a 25, 50 or even 100km trek for ELF, then contact us for details! DM us, or email [email protected]

Last month, we shared with you the story of Jean and Alice Player, who were undertaking their dream challenge of walking the final 115km of the Camino de Santiago pilgrim trail in Spain.

We recently caught up with Jean, who reported that the trek was everything the pair were hoping for:
"We have been totally overwhelmed by all the support given to us. Whilst on the walk we were very privileged to witness and receive much kindness from strangers. We have raised £1,737 which is tremendous, and we are proud to have supported ELF and to have helped other blood cancer patients in the future."

Our huge thanks to Jean and Alice for their amazing fundraising efforts. Here are a few highlights from their trek for you to enjoy.

Next month, ELF Development Manager Andy is tackling a one-day, 50km Ultra Challenge trek, as he celebrates the 21-year remission anniversary of his own leukaemia diagnosis.

"The 19th February 2024 marked 21 years since I received my life-saving bone marrow transplant. I never forget that I am one of the lucky ones. The chemotherapy, radiotherapy and transplant did the trick and I am fortunate to have remained in remission from blood cancer ever since.
In my role, I see the positive difference ELF makes to patients and families on a daily basis and that is why it is a perfect full circle moment to tackle my own fundraising challenge to mark my second 21st birthday."

Good luck Andy from all the team! Click on the link to read Andy's story and please sponsor him if you can.
