Vivace Music School
Hello! We are Vivace Music School, here to help children discover their love for music and thrive
🎶 Calling All Local Musicians! 🎶
We’re Vivace Music School, and we’re looking for local musicians to volunteer their time and perform at some of our music classes! 🎵 We’re hosting an instrumental week for our students, and we’d love for them to experience the magic of live music. 🎻🎷🎸
All types of music and instruments are welcome! If you’re interested and have some free time, please get in touch with us at [email protected].
Let’s inspire the next generation of musicians together! 🌟
Last Friday, we had the honour of welcoming the brand-new baby sister of one of our toddlers at the Bouncing Beans class. At one week old, it was her first outing. 🥰
One thing I love about Vivace is the lasting relationships that grow between our families, the children and us teachers. As Vivace parent Nick said on our video - "It's a real community."
At Vivace, our motto and our passion is "Music for Life" and we're here to make this a reality for kids in Fleet, Farnham, Yateley and the local area. 🎵
But like all things worth having, music skills don't spring from nothing. They're not suddenly "switched on" on their 6th or 7th or 8th birthday, meaning they are now "old enough" for piano or violin lessons. 🎹
Instead, like language and motor skills, music skills grow from day one and can be nurtured and supported in those early years. 🌱 In fact, making music with your child in those early years supports their learning in all other areas - social skills, language, motor skills, numeracy, you name it!
This is why at Vivace, we have a program of fun, active music classes for children from birth right up to Senior School where we help kids discover their love for music and gain confidence, and where we teach - step by step - vital music skills for a life of music making! 👣
Check out our program at https://www.vivacemusicschool.co.uk/program-prices

Hurrah for music 🎵
Having some down-time together with the best team in the world, what a lovely way to end the year! 🥳⛱☀
Thank you so much for all your hard work this year, all your positivity and passion for the children, your wonderful creative teaching and support work. It means so much to me to be surrounded by such a brilliant team, that you all share the amazing vision we have at Vivace to help all kids make music to their hearts' content! 🎶🥰
And thank you to all our wonderful families for a fantastic year - your support of your children and engagement in their musical journey is what will keep them singing - and banging, crashing, playing, experimenting, composing - thriving!
Have a wonderful summer, and we look forward to seeing you again in September.
Happy memories... watch the two-year-old right at the end.
This was taken six years ago; my oldest had just joined Da Capo Winds on percussion (then directed by Len Tyler, our founder) aged eight, purely on the strength of his music learning through his group classes at Len Tyler Music School (now Vivace Music School).
He looked so small next to the bass drum!
My daughter (2 at the time) was loving the performance - watch her get the last cymbal crash bang on.
I love re-watching this video every year because it reminds me just how early children can get into music! I love seeing exactly these skills - attention, time keeping, and so much more - come out in our classes for even the youngest. This memory reminds me of how precious music-filled time is in the early years.
I also love the fact that all of them - my older sons (the middle one isn't in the video) and my daughter - now play in the wonderful ensembles of Hampshire County Youth Bands (percussion, cornet and percussion, respectively). And they now have a two-year-old baby brother that loves coming to their concerts, claps and conducts along to all their pieces and in between pesters me to take him to music class every day!
On my way with my little helper to teach our last Friday music class of the term 😍
Saturday classes, I'll still see you tomorrow.
"If you have strong music in a school, you also have children who believe in themselves and believe in each other."
From an interview in the Times this morning - Dr Kadiatu Kanneh-Mason, mum of seven classical musicians, speaks about her family, and among other things, the central importance of music in education. Speaking about her children's secondary school she says:
“It was a perfect school; we chose it because of its commitment to musical education. It’s [now] a very different school to the one the older children went to. It’s no longer so concerned with music. Astonishingly, the rot set in just as Sheku was lifting his BBC Young Musician trophy. The term he won there was a change of head teacher; it became a multi-academy trust, and the new head teacher didn’t like music. Sheku won BBC Young Musician and he [the head] axed the cello teacher. I think Trinity is representative of so many schools across the country now. I didn’t expect all my children to become musicians, that wasn’t the point, it’s bigger than that. It’s about confidence, it’s about being able to achieve across subjects. If you have strong music in a school, you also have children who believe in themselves and believe in each other.”

🐌 Fun games with snails - have you ever played with a snail's feelers? I remember doing this as a kid, and my children love it as much now as I did then. They retract at the slightest touch or breeze, only to reappear a moment later. Try it out when you see one (or come to our garden, we're forever rehoming them from the strawberry patch to the front of the house!). 🍓
In this song, our index fingers become the snail's feelers, which disappear when we blow on them, only to pop up again with a loud "ding" - so random, and can have my toddler in stitches for hours on end.
Musically, this song is great for practising rests. The silences in music are just as important as the notes we sing or play, but it can be hard to give them space. So we put something in those silent spaces, e.g. blowing on our fingers, to help children develop that sense of timing even when they're tiny. They don't know this, they're just having a good laugh 😅
Saw these amazing young musicians at my daughter's summer concert last year. Go see them for an amazing evening!

When children feel safe they sing. The music just bubbles up out of them. I'm especially looking forward this term to stretching our children who are due to start Reception later this year. They're ready for a challenge, and here is one of the many things we have planned: a fun guessing game that will make them feel great about using their voices!
