Yesterday Earlsgate Podiatry attended a fascinating talk given by Dr Ivan Bristow on Dermatology.
Here are 10 take home facts that you may be interested to know:

The skin has a PH of 5.5. If this is altered then there is more chance of bacteria, infection and inflammation occuring. Use a very gentle product for washing.
Moisturise Moisturise Moisturise – all over! Good recommended products easily available are Aveeno,Aproderm and Eucerin -(sensitive skin).
If more than 5 Moles on the feet you are highly likely to have many on the body. Monitor all for changes.
Always check Moles on the body and on the feet. New Moles tend not to develop after the age of 40.
For any suspicious Moles or skin marks use the ABCDE
A =Asymmetry to the pattern of the skin area, B=Are the Borders irregular, C=Are there more than 3 Colours, D=Is it over a 6mm Diameter and E=Has it Enlarged and is it Evolving. If the mark is an `Ugly ducking` among the others – check it out!
Use UV protection all year round. UVA can pe*****te through glass. An easy way to remember what they stand for is UVA = Ageing. UVB = Burns. Both of which can lead to mutations in the cells. Use a UVA and UVB protector.
Psoriasis has a strong association Diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol due to its inflammatory nature.
Eczema has association with asthma, food allergies and hay fever.
There are only 640 Dermatologists in the UK, which has approximately a population of 65 Million. Theyr`e a busy bunch of people considering 2/3rds of Podiatry patients have a dermatological condition.

It is advisable to only wear varnish for 3 weeks at a time, then take off and change or let the nails rest. This will limit the nail becoming dehydrated.

When I order my Podiatry supplies I'm never too sure what type of packaging they will arrive in. Slightly self conscious walking up the road with this one!

I purchased this bit of kit last year to effectively treat verrucaes. It has a high efficacy rate compared with other treatments-about 80%. It works on microwave therapy. So far I'm getting good results. www.treatwithswift.com generally used on adults with long standing stubborn verrucae. I'd show pics but I know you won't appreciate that over breakfast/lunch/dinner!
