Fully charged!
As busy as ever, despite not having posted in the last couple of months.
Getting through the relentless EV charging workload toward the end of the OZEV funding window left little time for updates.
Keen to get back to some regular posting as a portfolio for existing and potential customers - EV and otherwise.
Project EV Pro Earth charge point in black.
A straightforward installation on a sunny morning with apprentice Ed fixing the cabling, mounting & connecting the unit and completing the testing.
Overcurrent and surge protection using Fusebox devices, with current limiting and RCD & PEN fault protection on-board. Doncaster Cables EV Ultra cable fixed with Linian clips for a super tidy finish.
Untethered Zappi 7kw EV charging point.
With the smallest of metering cupboards, a long cable run through a tricky loft, and some earthing improvements required, this is quite typical of many of the EVSE installations undertaken.
Main protective bonding installed to water and oil, and new main earth conductor to existing electrode to replace the 2.5mm2 in place.
Easee EVSE installation for a Friday morning.
Becoming a favourite charger due to great product design and function, but as an installer chiefly because of it's excellent setup system. The NFC registration and installer app is first class, with further administration on the Easee cloud portal allowing easy handover to the customer. It's in a class of its own.
Matt:e used for current limiting. Eagerly awaiting the Easee One UK current limiting version release to make this our first recommendation to customers.
Project EV Pro Earth 7kW in black. Looking sharper than the former black/grey model.
Minimal installation work required for a position as close to the metering enclosure as it gets. Nonetheless, a clean and tidy looking install when the customer isn't averse to visible elements of the system.
Overcurrent and surge protection provided by with RCD protection and current limiting on-board with this model of EVSE.
Hypervolt EVSE in Black.
20m cable route, buried alongside and beneath a path. Dedicated Fusebox distribution with DP 30mA type A RCBO and surge protection device.
Current monitoring and limiting set to 60A on the PCB with Hypervolt. On all of our installations - regardless of the brand of equipment we install - the additional load of EVSE will always be prevented from overloading the main supply fuse.
Zappi untethered EVSE with external distribution.
Client had installed 30m 10mm2 SWA when remodeling the garden, so needed distribution at the parking area to cater for small power, automated gate control and the EVSE.
Fusebox surge protection installed at the sub-main origin, with current monitoring provided once more by the Myenergi Harvi.
9kW shower found connected to ring final circuit.
On a BS3036 fuse and no RCD, this had been in place and in use for years. Disconnection made, electrical safety notice issued, and now new final circuit installed.
10mm2 SWA from CU in garage, routed up to and through the loft-space, transitioning to T&E above the bathroom. Crabtree 2167 50A DP pullcord installed (the only pullcord ever worth fitting), new load cable to shower unit and 40A RCBO protection.
Electrical safety is so often compromised in people's homes. Making a circuit or piece of equipment work is so very different to making something safe and compliant.
Hypervolt EV charger - another challenging cable route overcome.
With a consumer unit upgrade and a protracted cable run - fished through a stud wall, beneath the landing floor, under the bath, out of the building and clipped direct, then trenched beneath the lawn - this was always going to be different to an install next to the metering enslosure.
Twin & earth with CAT6A to an external junction, from which an armoured EV Ultra cable completes the supply to the EVSE. Fusebox SPD and DP type A RCBO provide the requisite protection, with PEN fault protection onboard. Second digging install in as many weeks - at least the weather was on our side.
One month left for the current tier of OZEV funding for these installations, and a full schedule ahead of Zappi, Hypervolt, Easee and Project EV installations.
Easee EVSE - 2 vehicle charging provision on one final circuit.
Back-to-back chargers serving garage and car port for this client with 2 EVs arriving in March.
Easee is a great product, soon to be made even better with their Equaliser load monitoring and limiting device shipping with a CT from Q2. Set up, registering and allocating devices using NFC on a smartphone is taken care of using the installer app. Hand over using the app and cloud portal is excellent for both installer and customer.
With multiple EV homes becoming an increasing reality, dynamic load sharing is a great solution when capacity doesn't allow for 2x 32A supplies.
Zappi untethered EVSE in White.
Clean and smart-looking install integrating with the customer's PV system for a 'green' charge.
Apprentice Ed is getting quite used to installing and testing this model. Still our most popular customer choice.
Easee One charging 'robot'.
Cable route may not have been easy - 25m around a house, under a path, through a wall and around the inside of the garage - but the Easee is a superb product.
Great 'installer app' allowing registration of the site detail and product the day before the visit, making the customer setup and handover really simple without having to direct them on their device. The Easee.cloud facility also provides superb access for administration.
We only install charge points with a load curtailment setting, and though the Easee has an 'Equaliser' device for this with some great features, it doesn't integrate with UK meters, so a Matt:e device provides monitoring and limiting.
Fuseboard upgrade to 'Fusebox' consumer unit.
Making an immediate improvement to the electrical safety of this installation, in a house that is wholly original from its build in the late 60s.
Main protective bonding connected to gas and water services involved some scrabbling around beneath a suspended floor. More improvements scheduled, not least the rewiring of all lighting circuits.
Hypervolt EVSE in Space Grey.
Helping another customer today to take advantage of the £350 grant available under the EVHS (Electrical Vehicle Homecharge Scheme) while it's still available to homeowners with off-street parking.
Enquiries and accepted quotes are coming in daily - get in touch to ensure a booking before the end of March.
Second fix and testing of a domestic rewire.
Finishing up this rewire today with only a few additions to the loft space and external light fittings left to complete - though the new owners have some work left to do before moving in.
Pleasing knowing that the electrical installation in this house is as safe as it can be before it becomes a new home.
Hypervolt EVSE installed under the WCS (Workplace Charging Scheme).
Commercial installation for a 7kW electric vehicle charging point. One of the slickest installation and commissioning processes of those that we install, with great app control and functionality. It's not just about the looks, though it's undeniably handsome.
Plenty more lined up to be fitted in the coming week - Hypervolt, Zappi, Project EV and Easee all in stock and awaiting installation, with residential customers all able to make use of the OZEV grant for £350 towards the cost of installing before the end of March.
Myenergi Zappi tethered EVSE in white.
Providing an EV charging option for our customer for a 'green charge', with the ability to only draw what is being generated by their solar PV system.
Of course, a little sunshine is required, and as there was none on Monday, a short visit yesterday to check function clearly showed the installation overview on the display. All of this is of course viewable on the Zappi app, along with a host of other features including charge scheduling.
Functional test carried out using our brilliant Maxus eDeliver 3, as the customer's vehicle has yet to arrive.
Finishing up 2021 - Commercial EICR on a municipal building.
Solid team effort to round out the year, with a few days between Christmas and the New Year being the only chance to see this building empty to minimise disruption.
8x distribution boards and ~100x connected circuits, on a 5-year-old installation that was completed to a very good standard.
A fitting end to a successful 2021 - looking ahead to an even better 2022.
Project EV Pro Earth 7kW charge point install.
Using our standard installation materials: Fusebox distribution equipment with surge protection device, Doncaster Cables EV Ultra cable with data for load monitoring, and fixings.
Project EV advise me that a new app is in the pipeline and I hope it's soon - the setup isn't as simple as it could be, which can make for a clumsy customer demonstration when it needs to be slick. Needed a laptop for this as the customer's WiFi network name had more than 16 characters, preventing setup solely with the app. Nonetheless, a good product at a sensible price.
*** The EVHS eligibility is changing ***
From April 2022, the EVHS will be targeted at people in rented and leasehold accommodation and will be removed for private homeowners. If you're a homeowner with off-street parking looking to claim the £350 OZEV grant for a home charger, act soon.
Positive Services (Electrical) can help you take advantage of this.
Tesla GEN 3 wall connector install.
To afford the same levels of protection offered on-board by other brands of charge point that we install, we fitted a Matt:e PEN fault protection device for this Tesla EVSE.
The model we selected also provides a current limiting capability to ensure that the additional load can't contribute to an overload of the main supply fuse, via a duct-grade ethernet cable from the garage to a CT at the metering point 50m away.
Zappi untethered 7kW charge point in White.
Yesterday's second install in the failing light. Awkward rearrangement of an existing consumer unit to ensure surge protection, with conduit entry into the rear of the EVSE to ensure a clean, uncluttered look.
Glad to have been able to fit this one in ahead of the client's Tesla delivery and complete a functional demonstration with our new Esprinter.
Positive Services Electrical installing EV charge points - powered only by electric vans!
Project EV 7kW charge point installation.
A smart, untethered install made tidier still using Linian Clip fixings for the first time. Dedicated Fusebox distribution with surge protection and Doncaster Cables EV Ultra cable for load monitoring capability.
Device setup wasn't quite as slick as some other brands we fit, but a good quality charger at a sensible price point.
Customer yet to receive their car, so functional test and demonstration carried out by plugging into our Maxus eDeliver 3. All of our vans will be electric for January 2022!
Replacement floodlighting on cement silo.
Lamp and component failures on 10-year-old 400W MH floodlights necessitated an upgrade to Ovia 300W LED fittings by .
Braving the cold on a bright morning this week, Apprentice Ed and I safely isolated at the lighting control panel before commencing work. Fixing bolts needed cutting off due to corrosion, before mounting the new fittings and reterminating existing cabling.
Domestic rewire of a lovely 1930s red-brick semi-detached house beginning next week.
Some excellent examples of old distribution and switchgear which will make way for modern protective devices. Always pleasing to see for those with a keen interest in the ever-evolving electrotechnical industry.
Simple commercial install using PVC conduit system.
Small industrial unit for storage, where our client requested a basic installation of lighting and small power.
Plenty of awkward angles and steel work to overcome even to achieve this - particularly to get over a roller door. Small details provide a good finish.
EV charging with solar PV integration - Myenergi Zappi V2.
From several options presented, our client opted for the Zappi to be able to utilise their existing PV system to charge their BMW i3 - Take a look at for an incredible range of used EVs.
Dedicated Fusebox distribution with surge protection device, Doncaster Cables EV Ultra SWA cable with data (for the 2 conductor pairs required for import and export current transformers), and Myenergi Hub for smart capabilty and app control features.
We complete the OZEV Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) grant application on the client's behalf, and reduce the cost of install to them by £350. ✅

EV chargepoint installation - Myenegi Zappi 7kW single phase tethered.
Very simple installation from a split-phase supply to a stables and workshop.
Straightforward testing process with the MFT PRO EV. Another dedicated distribution solution using equipment and surge protection device.
DNO notification and OZEV grant completed for another very happy client.
Commercial LED lighting upgrade for a municipal building.
A solid team effort saw 50 new Lumineux LED fittings installed in place of existing fluorescent units, dramatically improving the working environment whilst reducing the building's electricity consumption.
The majority were suspended batten type fittings using suspensions for a clean look, with bulkheads and emergency versions in WCs.
The building's varied users had become accustomed to the previous lighting over time, but with lamp deterioration and the accumulation of dust, lux levels measured at desk height in office areas were as low as 160. Such a work area should be 300-500 lux.
With help from the manufacturer, I was also pleased to have been able to demonstrate to the client how the savings made in energy consumption will have paid for the entire project in just a few years.
Myenergi Zappi 7.2kW EV charge point.
EV charging installation with dedicated distribution equipment including surge protection device.
Cable route of 20m through two outbuildings to garage position. Installed using Doncaster Cables EV Ultra with data pair for supply monitoring current transformer connection.
Random stone wall of the garage didn't offer much to fix to so opted for plywood mounting.
Customers often rely on our expertise for fault finding and correction. Two examples from the past week:
Reported tripping of RCD-protected sockets when anything was plugged in. Measurements at the consumer unit revealed a N-CPC fault, traced further to a section of cable between socket outlets by breaking down the circuit. Spotting crimp connectors having extended conductors of one leg into the sockets box, it seemed likely that the other leg was extended too. Chiselling out a little of the wall revealed taped crimp joints within the fabric of the wall that had deteriorated to the point of melting.
Reported tripping of an RCD, disconnecting an entire consumer unit was identified to a lighting circuit that supplied external fittings. An external distribution position was feeding 15x fittings in a number of arrangments. Teasing out and testing the various loads led to a group of 4x column-mounted fittings operated by PIR detector and override switch. One of these had suffered clear water ingress.
Fault-finding and responsive maintenance work is often when customers need us most. Repeat work and further upgrades often result when expert knowledge and skills can be demonstrated.
Officially authorised EVSE (electric vehicle supply equipment) installer.
Very pleased to have received the OZEV authorisation letters this week to confirm our registration.
Having also completed the City & Guilds 2919-301 EV qualification, some web-based training with (Zappi) and being in the process of registering with a number of equipment manufacturers to become their approved installers, Positive Services (Electrical) Limited are very pleased to be able to offer EV charging installations to their customers.
First EV enquiry lined up for this week. ✅
Industrial, commercial & domestic work.
Another very busy week, seemingly doing more hours than ever organising and completing work with the team. Rewiring another electrician's first fix effort, repairs to CNC stone saw machinery, a large kitchen installation, some tray & SWA work... and some Myenergi training!
Tray on Friday, with cabling to supply 110v & 400v socket outlets, along with control cables for oil shut-off solenoid pushbutton stations.
Interesting proactive EICR for the town council.
I have the good fortune of often working with Frome Town Council on varied jobs - from streetlighting repairs to PAT testing - but this week I needed to ensure electrical safety for 3x pop-up distribution units in the Market Place.
24x DP RCBOs and IP67 socket outlets in total. 11x failed either operation, functional test or applied fault current. All replaced, units fully tested and operational. ✅
Service alteration ahead of a property rewire.
Significant renovation to this property involving the demolition of an attached garage - which accommodated all service intakes - before building extensions. Supply cable shortened by SSEN to opposite gable end and routed to new recessed metering box. 25mm2 SWA routed beneath suspended floor to new distribution position in the centre of the house.
New sub-main protected by switch fuse unit, with plenty of wiring space for larger conductors. About as tidy as a busy metering box gets.
Working hard to keep up with the demands of a growing business.
The past month has seen the company purchase and kit out a second van and welcome it's fourth employee. We've been busy with renovations, consumer unit upgrades, EICRs, and keeping up with ongoing industrial project commitments.
And, having recently qualified with City & Guilds 2919-301 - Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation, we've registered as installers with the OZEV (OLEV) and a number of equipment manufacturers. You'll hear more from us about that really soon.
Final touches to a garden control panel.
Domestic installation to control patio, pond and water feature lighting, pump operation, and rainwater recovery solenoid.
It's satisfying when a customer has an idea about what they want to achieve and we're able to come up with a design to bring it to realisation.
Local isolation (though access required for timer changes), manual/auto/off selector for pump operation, timer and photocell control for lighting arrangements, and wireless switching for lighting and pump override.
