This is great news!
You asked and the GCU Students' Association delivered!
In partnership with the University, two new microwaves and a hot water machine have been installed on level 0 of the Students' Association Building and are free to use for all students 🤝
This was in response to the current cost of living crisis and was a successful team objective for the Full Time Officers 2023/24 lead by Student President SP Chidozie Nwaigwe pictured with our Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Susan Mitchell 💙
It allows students to save money by bringing their own food onto campus and heating it up, as well as making hot drinks and noodle cups
Remember to read the instructions before using the equipment and to bring your own cutlery 🍴🥄

Hi everyone. I want to introduce myself as the new Student Carer Officer. I am Stacey McFadyen, a 4th Year Social Work student here at GCU. I am excited to meet you all and hear your voices. I put myself forward for this role as I know first-hand what it is like to be a student carer, and know how important it is to hear the views and opinions of student carers. Being one myself, it can feel like our responsibilities can be hard to manage alongside University and that it is hard to be recognised. I want to advocate and encourage the strengths of each person in this Representation Network as I feel like it is easy to get lost within our responsibilities; so just to be recognised as ourselves, and not just carers. I would like us to have a safe and welcoming environment to discuss any concerns and overall views on University life. I would like to do a few events so I can meet some of you, either in person or online, including a Christmas get-together. I am looking forward to meeting you all, learning and sharing our experiences and knowledge. If you identify as a student carer, please join the group here (link in bio). Please feel free to reach out, whether that be to discuss matters or to have a friendly chat. You can email me at [email protected].
On Monday we will be welcoming Carers Trust Scotland and Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership onto campus to talk about the work they do supporting carers.
Pop along to the Campus Life Lounge in the George Moore Building (Level 1) and the Relax and Renew Space on Level 0 of the library from 12-2pm to chat with their friendly staff and pick up a freebie!
Then join us in the Campus Life Seminar Rooms Level 1 for coffee, a cake, and a chat any time between 1 and 2.
Meet our fabulous Student Carer Officer and find out about all the great work she has been doing to represent the voices of student carers GCU Student Carers'
This event is for anyone who is interested in learning about support for carers and could be of particular interest to students on health and social care courses who may work with carers in their professional lives.

So I contributed to a piece for GCU Student life and provided to tips for née GCU students. I hope these help!
We know that starting university can be daunting, so we've collected some from our current students🌟
Stacey is a Child Nursing student at GCU, and has shared some top tips to help you settle into life at university🥰
Check our her tips below👇
🗣️"If you are worried about essays, assignments and referencing at university level then I definitely recommend contacting the Learning Development Centre (LDC) as soon as you start. As soon as essays come out, their appointments go like crazy! The LDC can help with so many academic things and will get you off to a great start!"
🗣️ "Organisation is key! I know this is quite obvious, but you have no idea how quickly things can pile up. Grab yourself a good academic diary and jot it all down. Make sure to plan some self-care time too!"
🗣️ "Visit the Student Association or go on their website. There are many student networks and societies to join, such as the Student Carers Group, LGBT+ Network and many other sporting societies."
🗣️ "This is probably the most important one. Always put your mental health and physical health first before anything. Mental health is extremely important and so is self-care. University can be so demanding at times and it is essential to take some "me time". The Student Wellbeing services are wonderful and offer free services to all GCU students such as counselling, mental health advisor appointments, activities like yoga and much more!"
Keep an eye on the GCU Student Life social media pages over the coming weeks for more Tips 4 U @ GCU🫶
