GoMA is the most visited modern art gallery in Scotland. Entry is free. It plays an important part in the city’s rich heritage which continues today.
GoMA is housed in an iconic building located in the heart of Glasgow, which it shares with the city centre library. For over 100 years the building was a centre for business and commercial exchange where information and goods were traded. GoMA continues that philosophy of exchange by being a centre for people to gather, discuss and learn, inspired by the art it collects and shows. GoMA believes in
Mimesis: African Soldier, by John Akomfrah, is screening throughout this remembrance day.
“Whatever the life is that you have got as a person of colour, we have arrived at that life in large part because of sacrifices made by people from elsewhere who are very rarely acknowledged and it is important that they are.” John Akomfrah, 2018

Kelvin Hall Lecture Theatre, 1445 Argyle Street, G3 8AW, Glasgow
This event is presented as part of programme of events responding to Scott Myles’s Head in a Bell exhibition at GoMA and organised as part of the Thinking Culture programme by the University of Glasgow School of culture & Creative Arts, this special screening of Sisters with Transistors will be followed by a panel discussion with Louise Harris, Curlew, Victoria Morton, and Janet Beat.
SISTERS WITH TRANSISTORS is the remarkable untold story of electronic music’s female pioneers, composers who embraced machines and their liberating technologies to utterly transform how we produce and listen to music today. The film maps a new history of electronic music through the visionary women whose radical experimentations with machines redefined the boundaries of music, including Clara Rockmore, Daphne Oram, Bebe Barron, Pauline Oliveros, Delia Derbyshire, Maryanne Amacher, Eliane Radigue, Suzanne Ciani, and Laurie Spiegel.
Narrated by Laurie Anderson
What a wonderful way to start the day - coffee, cake and games, all while raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support Scotland! Well done to all our bakers (and fakers) and to the team who won the (quite challenging) quiz! And thanks to our staff member Laura for organising this! 🍰☕
Thank you to Dr Hilary Wilson for showing us around a couple of weeks ago up at Friends of Glasgow Royal Infirmary. We really enjoyed our visit! 📚🩺

Domestic Bliss: historic narratives and contemporary responses
Gallery 4, GoMA
Friday 20 September, 2-3pm
Free, adults, no booking required, meet in Gallery 4.
Join curator Katie Bruce for a tour of the exhibition Domestic Bliss. This show presents works from Glasgow Museums’ collection reflecting on the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) building’s history as a former house, Royal Exchange and civic space in the centre of a city (Glasgow) that prided itself on historical connections to the rest of the world.
Observing how artists work with fine art, design and craft practices alongside social and political changes, this show explores domestic labour and feminism, public and private space, intimate relationships and historical narratives. We live in a consumerist world where home interior, lifestyle magazines and social media present flawless examples for us to emulate in our own lives. What happens if we question what is seen as ‘domestic bliss’, and whose stories are hidden or revealed?
This event is part of Art History Festival 2024 organised by the Association for Art History.
