A few friends and I went on a weekend trip to Berlin and here are some highlights 🇩🇪🔆🌳

📍 The first photo is from the Berlin wall, we managed to walk the whole thing and see the very famous artwork of Leonid Brezhnev and Erich Honecker, the then leaders of the Soviet Union and the German Democratic Republic.👬

📍 The next photo is the also famous Brandenburg gate. This is one of the top attractions in Berlin and it did not disappoint. It was amazing to be in a place with so much history. 🏛

📍 This third photo is from a very cool flea market we managed to stumble upon on a Sunday. Berlin has many of these especially at the weekend. 🛍

📍 We stayed very close to the TV tower which we were able to see in many lights and from different angles. This is one of my favourites with the sunset. 🌅

📍 Lots of museums were also visited, with the favourites being the Jewish museum full of history from both the war times but also lots of descriptions about the religion in more modern day terms. 🌇

📍 The next photo shows a memorial for the Jewish affected during the war. There were an incredible amount of blocks and it put into perspective the amount of people that were impacted.

📍 The weather while we were in Berlin was in the mid 20s so we decided to head over to Tempelhofer Feld to sit out and people watch. It is an abandoned WW2 airport, so had lots of space and was the perfect place to sit and catch some sun. 🌳

Day Trip to Costa Brava 🌊

With the student travel card in Barcelona, you have access to all metro lines in the city but also trains that go up and down the coast. This means that days trips to towns outside of the city are super cheap and easy to do.

This weekend I went to Blanes north of Barcelona, visiting the famous botanic gardens and enjoying the pretty beaches.☀️ 🏖️

It has been four months since I returned home from my exchange, and although I was happy to be reunited with my family and friends, I felt a little overwhelmed and definitely missed my life in Austria! However, this is natural, so I thought I would share some of the ways to make the transition back home easier:

📱: Keeping in touch with the friends you made during your exchange, sharing your experiences returning home, and reflecting on the memories helps ease the transition back home.

🫶🏻: Reconnect with the things that you enjoyed before your exchange. Engaging in familiar activities can provide a sense of comfort as you readjust to life back home. I found that returning to the societies I am a part of and going to all of my favourite restaurants helped me adjust to being back home!

🗺️: While your exchange experience may have come to an end, that does not mean your adventures have to stop! Look for opportunities to continue exploring and discovering new things in your home country, whether that is through taking a day trip or trying a new activity.

⏰: Give yourself time and understand that readjusting to back home may take some time. Be patient with yourself and allow yourself to feel a range of emotions, including nostalgia for your time abroad and excitement about being back home.

Activities in Singapore: Semester Two

🐅 The first photo is from Singapore Zoo, I went with a few of my friends and we had the most fun day walking around and seeing all the different animals. Singapore Zoo is one of the best in the world for animal welfare!

🦁 The second photo is Singapore’s famous Merlion at night, with a beautiful view over Marina Bay Sands.

🎢 In the third photo I was at Universal on Sentosa island in Singapore.

🌳 The fourth photo was at MacRitchie reservoir in Singapore where you can do a tree top walk. It is like being in the middle of the jungle, you feel miles away from the city!

🍜 In the final photo I was at Newton Food centre which is famous because it is where Craze Rich Asians was filmed!

Sea to Sky Gondola 🚡

One of my favourite day trips from Vancouver was driving up to Squamish for the sea to sky gondola. The drive is only about an hour from UBC campus, along the beautiful sea to sky highway. The views were amazing, and there are also cute trails to hike up at the top. We had lunch at the lodge, and then headed back down on the gondola. On the way home, we stopped at Shannon Falls, which is the 3rd highest waterfall in BC.

St Marks Summit 🥾🇨🇦

My friends and I took a hike up to St Marks Summit at the weekend. Due to heavy snowfall, we had to hire snowshoes, which were only $20 from a shop in Downtown Vancouver. Taking an EVO car share, we drove up to Cypress Mountain to begin the trail. Round trip, the hike only took around 4 hours. The view at the top was beautiful !! 🏔️

The Easter holidays in Barcelona have allowed a welcomed few weeks away from university, allowing me to explore some of the places both within the city and further afield that I’ve been eager to visit.

️☀️ The first two pictures are from my day trip to Girona, just an hour’s train ride north of Barcelona. Girona is renowned for its vibrant buildings and for being a filming location for Game of Thrones at its famous cathedral.

🏖️ The third picture is from another day trip I took to Figueres in northern Catalonia, not far from the French border. I visited the Salvador Dalí Museum, an extraordinary building designed by the artist himself to showcase his collection. It was amazing to see and well worth the journey from Barcelona.

⛰️ The next two pictures are from some walks I did. The first is from Tibidabo, just a 20-minute metro ride from the city centre, offering scenic trails and views of Barcelona. The second is from further out, at the Monastery of Montserrat, where the hikes are a bit more challenging but the views are equally stunning.

🌟 Lastly, while the Easter weather proved variable with a few rainy days, I took the opportunity to explore different areas of Barcelona. This picture is from a café in the Gracia neighbourhood, which has great independent shops and a more relaxed atmosphere compared to the busy main areas of the city.

Here are a couple of pictures from my trip to Florence 🇮🇹

The first two pictures are of the famous Duomo which is admittedly one of my new favourite buildings that I have ever seen.

The next two are of the square near the Duomo with the impressive archway, the translation on the archway reads the ancient centre of the city.

The picture after is taken on the Ponte Vecchio and shows the river that runs through the city.

After this is the Galleria dell’Accademia which hosts many pictures and sculptures, with of course the famous Statue of David taking the spotlight.

Lastly, but certainly not least, is the pictures taken from the viewpoint which can capture the whole city and the Tuscan hills.

Zip-lining at Whistler 🏔️

Over reading week, my friends and I drove 1 1/2 hours up to Whistler, to go zip-lining.

This was one of the best things I have done on exchange so far. We were able to zip-line down Blackcomb mountain, across rivers, and through the forest. In total, we completed 5 zip-lines.

Semester 2 in Barcelona

Now my second semester here at UPF in Barcelona has come to an end, here are some of my highlights from the past few months.

🌟 Day trips from Barcelona are so easy with the train links, here are some pictures from Tibidabo at the top of the city, the views are amazing and Sitges a seaside along the coast which is so pretty.

⚽ Seeing a Barcelona FC match was a bucket list activity for me, the famous Camp Nou is currently being renovated but we went to Estadi Olímpic and the atmosphere was great.

🕶 Exploring Barcelona’s vintage shops became a favourite pastime this semester.

🥞Living in a big city there is so many good places for food. There is so many great Spanish treats such as Crema Catalana and traditional Spanish hot chocolate.

🪩Lastly, I spent lots of evenings at the beach for sunset or exploring Barcelona’s lively nightlife!

Here are some pictures of when I went on top of and inside the famous Duomo in Milan.

I went there with my family and it only cost myself €16 to be allowed to discover Duomo and the museum adjacent. I happily spent hours looking at the magnificent spectacles and engaging in the history. It was a fantastic experience that also challenged my Italian as I tried my best to interpret the signs inside before using Google translate.

The 8th picture is one of my favorite pictures. It shows the inside of a church near the Sforzesco Castello, it amazes me that even inside smaller churches there can be such exquisite architecture.

The last two pictures are at Lake Como, unfortunately, on the day there was a substantial amount of mist which impeded the spectacular views on camera: so you will just have to take my word for how pretty the lake really is.

Running the Barcelona Half Marathon 🏃☀️

Since coming back to Barcelona from the Christmas holidays I have been training to do the half marathon. It has been a great way for me to get into a good routine while studying abroad and be a part of the running culture here in Barcelona. There are so many running groups to join and it is a great way to see different parts of the city. It was a huge event and such a fun day with a great atmosphere. 🏃☀️
