Morning All

The Stag Den is looking great (or as good as it can given the rain!) following a successful weekend of work from a good number of members, we do however need to keep pushing with fundraising for the shower block! They've had a good clean with only a minor disaster (Stevvo) but are in desperate need of a refurb. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Please donate and share where you can 😀

Morning All - Please see attached a Pre-Season update from the Committee covering what has been going on over the winter plus plans for the upcoming season 🍻

Beckwithshaw CC - Shower Block Refurbishment, organized by Beckwithshaw Cricket Club 17/03/2023

Happy Saint Patrick’s day everyone! Hope you are all looking forward to the start of the cricket season in just over 5 weeks time!

We have been busy over the winter preparing for the upcoming season and have spent over £21,000 on refurbishing the dilapidated changing rooms which includes a new roof. Unfortunately, we do not have the funds remaining to undertake much needed work on the shower block and so we have just launched a GoFundMe page to try and address this.

The Committee would be grateful if you could take the time to have a look at the link below, so you can see the work that has already happened and what is left to do. If you can offer any support, we would be very grateful. This could be through a donation to the GoFundMe page, sponsorship of the club, taking an advertising board at the ground, or the offer of materials or time. If you are able to spread the word through your social media platforms to friends and family who you think might be interested in supporting the club, that would be great.

❗️1st Team Results Catch Up ❗️
Sat 24th April - Shaw narrowly lose out to North Leeds

Batting first, Shaw posted 263/6 from their 50 Overs with contributions from Ben Holderness (64), Sam Moore (48), Pete Hotchkiss (44), Callum Irvine (44*). Unfortunately, North Leeds took the victory taking their chase to the 49th Over passing the target 6 wickets down following a century from the Captain, Taran Chana (114) and a supporting 59 from George Wales. A great game played in good spirits, a shame to be on the wrong side of the result.

Sat 1st May - Shaw "sort out" Olicanians

Again batting first, Shaw had a bit of a scare slumping to 34/4 in the first half hours play, some good opening bowling from Olicanians putting us under the cosh early. Pete Hotch steadied the ship once again, continuing his good form with a well played 38. Contributions from Cal Irvine (16) & Stu Hudson (18) managed to drag the score up to 156/9 before Max Beeley and Scott Irvine went to work scoring runs for fun and applying pressure to a now much quieter Olicanians attack. Scott falling for 58(35 Balls) brought the innings to a close on 254. Special mention to Max who grafted for a long time before the partnership with Scott, just the innings we needed from him.
The Olicanians run chase never got going, losing wickets at regular intervals with resistance only coming from opener Tom Stark who scored a well made 61. Given the high levels of whoppering during the first innings, more was expected of the Olis batting line-up. The experienced Stu Hudson blowing away at least half the tail taking the last 5 wickets finishing with 5/26.

This weekend sees us travel to old foes Otley on Saturday which looks like a great day for Pass the Pigs, with the first round of the Waddilove on Sunday away at North Leeds where we hope to overturn the league result.

📣 Holderness’s Head Shines in the Sun 📣

The 1st Team began their season with a hard-fought 117 run victory over a visiting Ilkley side. Losing the toss, Shaw were put in to bat on what looked like a very good surface in the early season sunshine. Cueball and Ollie Heb got to work against a good opening spell from Jimmy Bullard, capitalising on the bad balls the pair put on 84 for the first wicket before Heb was caught off the bolwing of Luke Bott for a nice 38(47). DJ came to the crease and channelled his inner Peakman (Striking

What a great start to the 2021 Season for the 3XI, winning away at Pool CC, setting an impressive 302 for the home side to chase. Congratulations to Marcus Lynn on his 132 not out and to debutant Sam Barker on picking up two wickets. The future is bright at Beckwithshaw! 😎

🚨 Gameday! 🚨

We can’t wait to get going with the new season, the first team are at home against Ilkley in their return to the top flight. Elsewhere the 2’s are away at Steeton hoping to get their season off to a good start as well.

The ground is looking great & we have a load of new benches for no one to come and sit on unfortunately, unless you want to straddle them and watch the cars drive past then we won’t judge.

Good luck to all the teams starting their league campaign today!

WHAT A WEEKEND FOR THE CLUB! 🍾

The 1st team successfully gained promotion back to Division 1 after clinching the Division 2 Championship! 👏🏻

After losing the toss (for I think the 10th time in 11 games) we were asked to bat first on a pitch that looked a belter! That decision looked a good one for us as Ben Holderness and Toby Pratt got about their work. Putting on 123 for the first wicket with Ben falling just after securing his first 50 for the club in the 30th over. We looked then we'll set for a score well above 200. However, some tight bowling from the New rover attack knocked out our middle order and at 149-6 meant we were in a little trouble as we thought we would need 250+ on that track. Some proper batting from Henry Hopkinson coming in at 7 got us to a score that we could defend (albeit 50 short from where we wanted to be). He finished undefeated on 48 in arguably one of the most important knocks of the season. We were all out for 204 which meant we had gained 4 batting points.

Things got off to a nervy start from our lads, mixed in with some very good batting from the new rover top order as they went on the attack against our openers. On came Ben which then saw a moment on the field that most of us thought we won't never see. One of the most sportsmanship moments you could imagine. The ball being smashed back at the bowler (dropping the catch) but managing to get a finger on the ball which smashed into the stumps. With the umpire rightly trying to jump for cover he couldn't see whether the non-striker had made his ground. The man - Michael Richmond, then asked if Ben got a hand on it, he did, which then Michael proceeded to walk off the field and give himself out. A HUGE moment in the game! From then on Ben and Stu Hudson squeezed the New rover batting order, taking regular wickets. Jojo Holderness then came on and with his first ball hit the batter straight in front to give us the 8th wicket and set all the lads flying! We then finished the job off and bowled New Rover out for 148 to give us 19 points and the title! 🍾 Ben claiming 5-30 to go with his 50 to spark big celebrations from the lads 👏🏻🙌🏻🍾

🚨 🚨 Final Game Teams 🚨 🚨

1st team need 9 points from the final game to be Champions and earn promotion back to Div 1 after 2 seasons out. Come on The Bangers!

24/09/2020

What a day on Saturday for the 1st team at the Stag den! 🙌🏻 A full 20 point win takes us to within 9 points of the title and promotion from division 2.

After losing the toss (shock) and being asked to bowl first, we went about our work to the highest standard in the opening exchanges! Our two openers of No Splinter Lister and Jonny Macgregor were in great form and put a huge amount of pressure on the Tong Park batters. 16-2 from 14 overs was a great start by us mixed in with some great energy in the field.

We knew at some point Tong were going to get a partnership and that came through their third wicket stand (mixed in with some very average fielding) they managed to work their way up to 86 before the next wicket fell - a very important one of the Dangerous F.Maqsood. From then on Stu Hudson and Ben Holderness brought the pressure back and reduced them to 97-6. Again another partnership developed and with the score on 155 back came Lister and Hudson to finish the job. 4 wickets for 3 runs brought about an end to the Tong Park innings and a great first half for the lads on a pitch where we felt once you get in it becomes very easy to bat on and 200 should have been a decent score.

The Batting innings started poorly as we lost opener Toby for 1 as he played on to the stumps. However, when DJ Holderness joined Ben at the crease they went about their work getting themselves in and doing the hard graft, whilst ticking over the score on a regular basis. An inspired battling partnership of 117 broke the back of the run chase and put us in the position to get our full 20 points. Another bottled 50 for Ben as he was LBW for 47 but brother of DJ didn't stop there as he was eventually out for a well made 69. A couple of wickets fell and things got a little nervy about not getting the full 20 points. But a l***y blow from Callum Irvine and a few singles/wides got us over the line in the 45th over.

A great feeling and we'll deserved from the boys! Just need to finish it off next week by gaining our 9 points needed. Nearly there!!!! 🦌🦌
