Lamb Kleftiko! Delicious melt-in-your-mouth lamb & potatoes, a timeless Greek recipe.

Lamb Kleftiko has its origin 5 centuries ago, when Greece was occupied by the Ottomans. The Greeks in the mountains were fighting off starvation by stealing sheep and cooking the meat in deep earth pits with herbs, lemons and garlic, carefully covered so as to stop the smell of cooked meat from escaping. This was the food of the thieves (kleftes in greek) - hence the name Kleftiko.
