💡Lighting plays a crucial role in shaping a space, and fortunately, it’s less intimidating than it may seem. While there are no strict rules, there are various approaches to leverage light for achieving balance in your design.
Consider function—how will the lighting support your activities in the space? Explore mood—what ambiance do you aim to create while performing those activities? Evaluate size—determine how much of the area requires illumination.
By addressing these three fundamental questions, you can gain insights into your design choices and optimize functionality. The images referenced in this post illustrate how light, whether natural or artificial, can be strategically employed to enhance and bring life to a space. 💡

I can’t keep them off my mind! These images are stunning and would be a fantastic addition to your walls.
Week 3 - Concept creating clients visions and turning them in to reality. I’m so excited to have joined the family, thank for the intensive training last week. Being a designer has been a longtime life goal for me and I’m glad I now have the platform to show my creative skills, listen to my customers needs, and find solutions to overcome. This is a concept of my own kitchen which I’ve put together as practice, enjoy! If you are in the Bingley area and you want a chat all things kitchens call in and I’ll get the kettle on 🫖
Suburban town houses are my biggest obsession at the moment. They are no only architecturally well designed but see them out of the city in rural towns can be pretty spectacular. Contrasting again tradition forms of Yorkshire architecture must really give them an edge when coming to sell them.
I spend a lot of my time looking at artist work and if I’m honest they are just out of my budget right now but if you can’t buy, make it yourself! So I did! This artwork is based of an amazing artist called Jason Tessier, Lactose Free. The colour combinations, shape forms and surface texture really bring the artwork together.
“The purpose of life - be happy inside. The purpose of home - be happy inside” I have learnt so much by seeing inside home. The details she has implemented around the home to give a sense of balance. If you haven't read Michelle’s book already it's amazing. “Happy Inside”
A life without art is no life at all...
John D Wilson ✨
Harrogate was born but now lives in New Zealand.
Wilson takes inspiration from L.S. Lowery and Bansky to create his unique iconic style. Hexagon prisms leap off the canvas to demonstrate the dimension of illusion; you feel as though you could walk through the canvas into his world.
John Myatt ✨
Former secondary school teacher John Myatt became Scotland Yard's biggest art fraud of the 20th century. In recent years he has emulated the style of legendary artists Leonardo da Vinci and Vincent van Gogh. Comparing himself to an actor immersing himself in a role, he says he climbs into the mind of his chosen artist to adopt, rather than copy their technique.
Bob Dylan ✨
Dylan's art has been likened to that of Pablo Picasso, with critics applauding the relatability of his collections. He paints mostly from life, stating: "I’m pretty much interested in people, histories, myth, and portraits; people of all stripes."
Jason Tessier ✨
I have featured Tessier's work here before but I enjoy it so much I wanted to include it again. His work looks effortless but the colour combinations and forms on the canvas are truly spectacular works of art.
How do I define my style. Traditionally classical in materials however bold in vision and form. Theses inspiration photos best illustrate traditional materials but designed in a whole new way, the modern way. If your wanting a design style which never ages look for classic materials such as marble, herringbone flooring, wall panel mouldings, and brass hardware; from there you can add personal decor items to bring in your personality. This is my personal design style, how would you best describe yours?
What to do with the downstairs toilet? Small, unloved and generally boring… does this sound familiar? I have the solution! 1️⃣ Continue the flooring from the hallway into the bathroom 2️⃣ Sink unit raised from the floor either floating or on legs 3️⃣ Impact wallpaper from skirting boards to ceiling. ⭐️ Taking on these steps will guarantee impact and the illusion of more space ⭐️ Bonus Tip 🚀 If your bathroom gets a lot of hammer use a vinyl wallpaper which is not only wipeable but durable and can withstand those water splashes.
Design Proposal ready! ✅ what do you think? Would you stay here?
Concept Development - Today I have been working on a 'Short Term Let' Shephard's Hut design 1 of 5 for a customer based in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. The inspiration behind the design is a "home from home" experience with an essence of rural modernism. As a part of research for this project, I went to stay in a nearby Shepards hut near Lake Windermere called Ben Cragg Farm; if you have never had an overnight stay in a Shepard's Hut, that is where I would recommend. A common misconception is warmth or lack of it; a log burning fire can heat the entire hut all night. You can't see it from the design concept, but there will be a log burner in the corner of the room. This concept isn't fully complete so keep a lookout for more concepts and finished ideas.
Coffee anyone?
Maximalism… garish, unapologetic and extroverted. These are probably the adjectives you would use to describe maximalism. However there’s been a development recently and the lines are begging to blur between maximalism and minimalism. “Yeah right!” Your thinking. This is what I thought, maximalism “more is more” and minimalism “less is more”; but what if “more is less”. “What?”… Let me explain. Refined maximalism or carefully considered creative collections. Instead of using lots of smaller items to crest maximalism, the “more is less” idea uses larger apposing items, bolder colours, crazy patterns but fewer and balanced. Bigger = more luxurious, more extravagant.
If you haven’t already take a look through the image above and give me your thoughts of what you think.
Commercial short term let property renovation in Meanwood, Leeds. Taking inspiration from Tasmin Johnston’s latest home renovation in Sydney, Australia. Link below. How to tie in different rooms to make a more cohesive home. Taking a look at these photos you notice minor nuances in materials, colours and shapes; from the kitchen to the bathrooms, gold hardware, dark cabinetry (black or walnut), door and wall mouldings, Olive / Purple marble and white wash veneer flooring. If you were to put all of your rooms into one room, they should all work together. @ Leeds

🥭 MANGO WOOD 🪑
I have been trying to use Mango Wood not only because it can look incredible but also for sustainability reasons. Mango wood as you can probably tell is from a Mango Tree and is native to India and East Asia. They typically have a life span around 15 years and farmers have to replant every 7-15 years which makes them sustainable because once older trees stop producing fruit they can be chopped down and use for furniture.
Affordability £££
Mango wood is considerably cheaper in comparison to oak because it is readily available, meaning pieces which are made from mango wood are affordable without compromising on quality.
Next time when your buying furniture consider the sustainability of your products.
