Week 3: Sustainable Lunch Spots in Leeds 🥗

Us serious snackers realised that the lunches that we are bringing into work are FULL of single-use plastic packaging, and plastic packaging accounts for nearly 70% of all of the UK’s plastic waste, as found by WRAP (The Waste and Resources Action Programme). We decided that this needed to change and discussed what choices we could make to do our bit for the environment.

Also, in the office, we’ve set up a rail where staff can bring unwanted clothing. The team can swap items and anything left over will be donated to Smart Works, Emmaus and Revive at the end of the month.

Week 1 - Breakfast Refill Station 🥣

We've set up a reusable breakfast bar with the help of 'Leeds Refills Zero Waste Shop' shop. Our breakfast bar gives us a start to the day by cutting down on single-use plastics, coffee cups and wasteful packaging.
The Leeds Refills shop is located at Hyde Park Corner and has a full range of items for complete zero waste shopping needs♻️

BeReal. is the new social media platform with a twist. 😁

The app aims to capture the authenticity of daily life and take away the negative connotations of social media where many users compare themselves to the lavish lifestyles of influencers and celebrities. With BeReal. users are sent a notification at different times every day and then have 2 minutes to take a photo with both their front and back camera, there's no editing, no hashtags and no filters!

In order to see others photos you have to post one yourself which means a lot of the content captures the beauty of mundane, everyday life. You can add your friends or discover people on the news feed, but you can't build a following or simply be a follower.

Commenting and reacting to posts is similar to other platforms accept you use RealMojis - your face showing different expressions such as thumbs up or a laughing face.

What do we think? Ella and Charlotte, from our Marketing team, have been user testing the app for a couple days and here's what they have to say:

Charlotte - I like the concept of the app a lot, I think it feels more authentic than other platforms and the randomness of the daily notification is a bit of fun. At the minute, not many of my friends are using the app so I don't feel an urge to use this daily, however, I will keep the app installed and probably post from time to time.

Ella - I enjoyed trying out BeReal. It was quite refreshing to see unedited content from genuine people and I feel that it's a super interesting peak into the future of social media. I also can't wait to see how it shapes and changes as it's usership grows.
