Between April and August of this year, nearly 90% of independent food banks saw a rise in demand, and 72% reported a drop in donations.

After our Education team brought this to our attention, the whole office came together for the season of giving to buy a huge shop of every item the food bank recommended.

Well done to our Futures team for being so generous and passionate about this important cause.

🎆 Meet Abi! 🎆

Looking to pursue a career in digital marketing, Abi joined Futures in September 2022 as a Marketing Apprentice.

She has recently completed her A-Levels in which she received a distinction star in media. ⭐

Outside of the office, Abi is a black belt in karate and enjoys going to acting classes. Often she can be found reading a book, going to concerts, or supporting Leeds United! ⚽

We asked Abi how her first few weeks at Futures were. Here's what she said:

"So far, I have really enjoyed my time at Futures. Every day I am doing something different and learning a new skill!"

Despite its serious impact on someone's everyday life, menopause is not spoken about as freely as other physical or mental health conditions.

We do things differently to ensure that menopause becomes a normal part of the health and well-being conversation.

We support our employees and aim to create an environment in which all our employees feel informed about menopause and are comfortable and confident talking about its impact.

Our menopause policy has been put in place to ensure everyone experiencing menopause will have help coping with the effects so they can continue to do their job successfully.

This includes:

✏ Desk fans
✏ Rooms made available for rest
✏ Allowing frequent breaks
✏ Extending deadlines where possible
✏ Agreeing a flexible working agreement

If you are going through menopause and are finding things difficult at work, please don't suffer in silence.

Speak with your GP or medical specialist about your concerns and speak to your manager or HR for more support where needed.

Absenteeism due to mental health costs businesses millions of pounds a year.

You cannot work to your best capability if you’re suffering in silence, which will lead to absenteeism for much longer if you reach the point of burnout.

Here are our top 3 pieces of advice on how to look after your mental health:

✈ Just like the instructions on a plane, you need to put your own oxygen mask on before others. Ensure you’re taking care of yourself before or alongside taking care of others.

👩🏽‍🤝‍👩🏼Good relationships are important for your mental well-being. They can help you build a sense of belonging and provide emotional support when needed.

⛸🧶🎨Hobbies can make a huge difference to your downtime. Having a relaxing or even exhilarating hobby will provide you with an outlet for your frustrations and increase your confidence and self-esteem.

Remember that you are not alone. If you are struggling, please reach out to a friend, family member, colleague, or professional.

If you can’t think of anyone to speak to, whatever you’re going through, you can call the Samaritans on 116 123.

84% of companies we surveyed said that they have found hiring in 2022 more difficult than in previous years.

Only 5% of our respondents said hiring was easier.

The difficulty with hiring could come from a number of sources.

This includes:

💻 Candidates receiving multiple offers from companies
