Temple Learning Academy
Temple Learning Academy is a fabulous all-through school in LS9/LS15. Part of the Red Kite Learning
On Monday, the Arts Council took the opportunity to work with the Burley Banksy to develop their electric box designs and then went to paint them on to an electric box in the local community!
This was in association with Halton in Bloom, creating a floral and greenery-based design that had an anti-littering message. Members of Halton in Bloom came to support, as well as local councillors and MP for Leeds South, Hilary Benn. The pupils had a wonderful day bringing their ideas to life. The Burley Banksy stated that the pupils were "brilliant kids, and a credit to us" and Hilary Benn MP was very pleased and impressed with the design that came together and the skills that the pupils showed.
A change in the weather didn't dampen spirits but did mean that the design needs finishing off. Then, there is potential for us to paint more of these around the local community- watch this space!

On Friday 7th June the very first Red Kite Learning Trust Olympics took place!! Teams of Year 5 & 6 pupils from across the Trust took part in various sporting events and TLA came in second place!!
Well done to all involved!!

Friday was a fantastic day for some of our Year 5 children who didn't go on the residential; they set off to Whitby at at 8am to surprise their friends for the day!
The weather was kind, and they enjoyed a walk on the pier watching the fishing boats, walking up to the whale bone, walking through the screaming tunnel, enjoying an ice cream with their classmates, and joining the other class for lunch.
They enjoyed a walk around the town and a trip to the beach before returning to the minibus.
Well done to our Stars of the Week and Attendance Champions!!! ๐๐๐๐

This week's Artist of the Week is Ethan in Year 8!
Ethan continues to impress us with his hard work and commitment to his creativity. He draws and sculpts at home and often brings in pieces to show us. He takes the opportunity of art competitions that are open to him with his drawings and photography too. This drawing is a great example of him practicing and developing his art skills and knowledge outside of the classroom.
We loved how this rubber duck drawing shows his skills in blocking colour in neatly, changing tone, using hatching for shadows, using the white of the paper for highlights and changing his line weight around the edges of his drawing. He has also used mixed media; working with colour pen, colour pencil and line liner pen in the same piece of work. Well done Ethan!
Some of the pupils from year 5 who haven't gone on the residential enjoyed an afternoon of making rocky road yesterday, to share with their family last night!!
They worked together as a team and even enjoyed the washing up at the end after they had scraped the chocolate from the bowl!
Today has been another very busy day in Whitby. This morning Miss Horsleyโs class took part in a workshop at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The children especially enjoyed their ride on the steam train. Mr Priceโs class visited Whitby Museum, to learn more about the history of Whitby. Then went to Pannett Park to enjoy the sunshine. Both groups then rejoined this afternoon to do a coastal walk and fossil hunting!
This week Mr Sheriff came to visit TLA and learn all about our Story Cube. he was amazed to learn that we are the only school in the UK with a cube! The students who met with Mr Sheriff were fantastic role models and authors, reading out entries from across Primary with passion and expression that hooked everyone in. We could have listened all day! Watch this space for more writing competitions in school!
Reception have been learning about artist Etel Adnan. They have looked at shapes, colours and learnt about how to create landscapes. This example was created at home, and we think that it is wonderfully creative and has an extra sparkle that Etel would be very happy about!
Day 1 of Whitby- The year 5 students have all settled well into their rooms and have had a fun packed day. Miss Horsley's class have participated in a town trail around Whitby, whilst Mr Price's class have completed a workshop at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
After tea, the children had a walk around Whitby listening to the spooky ghost stories of the town. We are all ready and excited for another fun packed day!
Y5 are having a wonderful time in Whitby and are all settled at the Youth Hostel. Photos to follow as soon as possible.

Sports Day is on 4th July 2024! Please find the details below.
Primary Phase welcomed Amber, our reading dog, to TLA last week!
The children had the best time reading to Amber, and we think Amber enjoyed it just as much.
We are all looking forward to her next visit already!
Y3 have been learning about light and shadows in their science topic. They completed an investigation and managed to find a sunny day to test the decorations they made for EYFS!
Well done to our Stars of the Week, TLA Good Citizens and Attendance Champions!!! ๐๐๐๐
This week's Artists of the Week are the reception children. Miss Leach's children have created their own beautiful versions of 'Sunflowers' by Vincent Van Gogh. Bobby independently created 'Starry Night' making links to the artist they have focused on.
Well done reception, and well done Bobby!
Year 6 have spent time focusing on how to find their voices in their artwork and the results are fantastic!
This term, we have focused on an art unit about Activism Art and have created our own messages to communicate things that we feel passionately about. What a wonderful experience hearing you talk so enthusiastically about different things going on in our world.
Well done Year 6!

This week's Artist of the Week is Cristian in Year 8, who has produced these two very different landscape drawings just using black biro.
The range of mark-making on these is excellent to create the detail and texture of a variety of objects and surfaces. One of them reminds us a bit of a Van Gogh ink drawing landscape. The other looks like it is from a dystopian film or computer game. Well done Cristian!
Parents and Carers of our Reception children joined us for a Read Write Inc session.
They enjoyed seeing their children in action developing their reading and writing skills. We had lots of lovely feedback saying how much they had enjoyed the session, how impressed they were with the children's engagement and progress and that coming to this session in school will help them support their child at home.
