We’ve been extremely lucky to have a much needed long weekend away to a beautiful little cottage (Devon Cottage by the Harbour) in Brixham that we would highly recommend if you love Devon.
Unfortunately i won’t be back in time to open today, but I will be in tomorrow fresh faced and bushy tailed as the saying goes.

Lots of our “little guys” have had little adventures and sleepovers this half term with relatives or friends.
Your child’s first sleepover can be quite daunting with a mixture of nerves and excitement for both children and parents alike.

But what do they need to take with them you ask yourself?

A selection of important items from home is important, so here is a list that I’ve put together that might help that nerve racking/exciting adventure go smoothly.

A BACKPACK (like the lovely Blade & Rose rucksacks we have in store at just £18)
Big enough for a set of clothing, a special toy, toiletries etc.

A PILLOW is always a good idea as your little one might like to snuggle down with the smell of home. Plus if you have to travel to get to their sleepover then they have their pillow for snoozing on for the journey.

A CHANGE OF CLOTHING for the next day, snuggly hoodies (like our selection in store from Lighthouse clothing), a dressing gown may also be nice for winter months, slippers (like our range from superfit, Chipmunk, Joules & Gioseppo) can also add a touch of home comfort to their evenings and early mornings.

FOOTWEAR - SLIPPERS like we mentioned above as some households have a shoes-off policy.
WELLIES, WALKING BOOTS, WATERPROOF FOOTWEAR or TRAINERS for outdoor adventures. (We have lots of brilliant styles in store for you to choose from).
If there will be lots of children at the sleepover you might also want to make sure that you label your child’s footwear (we have the absolute best shoe labels to purchase in store too).

COAT OR WATERPROOF JACKET- for outdoor adventures. We have some smashing coats in store by Lighthouse clothing, Lego & Pex, if you are in need call in and see us.

SPARE UNDERWEAR & SOCKS - is a good idea for little ones who might have an accident.
Another idea is to pop a small bag into the overnight bag for any dirty or unused underwear.

PJ’s - why not put their favourite pair in or you could call into Footprints and pick up a new pair as a special treat.

TOY OR BLANKET- I’m sure they won’t forget their favourite snuggle item, but you might want to treat them to a new toy as a special treat. (We have some great wooden items and cuddly toys in store).

BOOKS - You might also suggest they take a favourite book or a new story to share with grandma or their friends at bedtime.
(We have some smashing story books that you can purchase in store, some of them have been written by local authors too like Ollie Discovers by Acres & The Whisker Twitchers by Tallentire)

TOOTHPASTE & TOOTHBRUSH

DEVICES - Maybe not a critical importance to some, but it might be for others.
They may spend some of their evening playing online with their friends or they may need them for emotional reasons, calming/setting reasons,
fun & games, to use on a long journey or to communicate with family etc.
And don’t forget those CHARGERS !!!

SNACKS OR FOOD PARCELS - favourite snacks/treats to share with family & friends, OR maybe your child has SPECIAL DIETARY REQUIREMENTS that need to be met.

MEDICATION- if it is required. Make sure that this is labelled and a time plan provided with a tick off box to make sure it is given at the correct times.

Well how did that happen ?
Half term already ……
……. That means we need to check our children’s school shoes (especially if you didn’t get a new pair for the start of the new school year).

So pop in for a fitting consultation.
Once we have measured your children for new shoes this is what happens next …..

⚠️Firstly can I just say that the measuring gauge is only a guide and it gives us a starting point for the required size.⚠️

When we measure we look at the whole foot, we look to see if your child has a high instep, flat feet, low ankle bones, if they roll in or turn out their feet etc.
We take all of these things into consideration which would not happen if you buy off the shelf or over the internet. We give you that specialist, personal service that your little one deserves to aid good foot health.

We then choose a selection of styles which we think will suit your child’s feet.
There may be a particular style that you or your child likes and we will always try that one too if we have your size in stock.

When fitting a shoe/boot/trainer etc we check that there is enough growing room (too much is as bad as too little), width fit, the depth of the shoe and how it fits around the heel & ankle.
Sometimes we are fitting your child’s orthotic insoles or leg splints into shoes too, so as you can see there are lots of things to consider when “putting on a pair of shoes”.

We are always honest about the fit of the shoes and offer the best advice we can give to help to make the right choice on your pair of shoes.
If we feel that professional help and supporting is required for you child’s foot health we will point you in the best direction for you to get that from a doctor, chiropodist or podiatrist.

Your children’s foot health is very important to us, so why not book an appointment or call in to see us this half term, we’d love to see you all.

We have lots of different brands offering a selection of different styles for you to choose from. The different styles also offer different fits too, so finding the “right pair” for your child or you is very important.
That’s why we use our expertise, knowledge and fitting experience to FINDING THE RIGHT SIZE FOR YOU.

SIZING & FITTING GUIDE - we want to make sure your child is snug and comfy in their new shoes or boots.

Firstly we make sure we know what stage your child is at to find the right shoe for them.
Then we take a foot measure (both length and width). These measurements for us are a starting point to shoe fitting. We know our brands, some fit very generous for size and we often have to down size on fitting, others come up very small for size and we have to go up a size on fitting.
Every stage of development may need a different type of shoe likewise we make sure that we know what sort of activity you are wanting the shoe for. There’s no point having a pretty little shoe that’s decorativehave without ensuring you have some anti scuff or a bumper toe if your little lady will be wearing them for scootering or skateboarding.

Remember not all children develop at the same pace, some children’s feet grow really fast, where as others are quite slow growing, so it’s important to get their feet measured regularly.
