Who is Posher T Posh?
https://wix.to/eB5ojxS
How popular is Posher T Posh? Now, I'd heard of Billy Bunter (of course), but I didn't know about Posher T Posh. Of course, I'm a gel and gels don't read boy's papers - not to mention the fact that I wasn't even born until over 20 years later. For the first time, I've mounted up the whole comic - the pictures are fine though the....
The incomparable Jonathan Pie.
Thank you! A new day has dawned in Westminster.

That's the way to do it! Some lovely pix from one of my customers showing how effective a wall of prints can be (not all from me, I must add!). The insects are her most recent purchase. Thank you, Myriam. So when people say to me, "I can't buy any more prints, I haven't any wall space", I'll just show them this.

What a twite!

What a twite! I'm not very knowledgeable about birds, but I like the name of this one. According to Wikipedia it's a small brown bird (could have worked that out myself). Anyhoo, the one on the left is the Guardian's, the one on the right is Archibald Thorburn's.
What's new from Layoes and Medlars
Hello, all Sorry, I haven't been very active on the emailing front lately. However, I have been busy mounting more prints and I've got a selection below. To see more, try Advertising, Punch, Royal Fashion, Nursery and Natural History. I've done... Reminder: If you're coming to one of the markets I do, you can buy online and pick up at the market, and I'll discount by between £3-5, as I save postage. It also ensures that I bring with me what you're looking at, as a great many of these are not mounted until they are ordered. I'll do you a spec...

Up and down Until looking at this, I hadn't considered how long escalators had been in use. Apparently the first one was installed in a London underground station in 1911 and was quickly extended to other deep stations.I note it says that one should step off the escalator with one's left foot.
Lasting Beauty I wonder who the 82 famous actresses were who used Pond's Cream. The illustration is by Joseph Greenup (1891-1946), an RA artist. Nothing more to say, really, just that the preservation of this advert supports the "Lasting Beauty" claim.

Nothing new under the sun "What do you think of my picture - an ultra-modern street scene?" "I think it old-fashioned - I see a flat to let!" Illustrated by Graham Simmons. (Pan Magazine, 1920)

Lovely on the wall I often ask my customers to send me a pic of what they've bought, so I can see it when it's framed up. This one looks lovely on the wall, don't you think?
Face-to-face sale, Sunday!!
Half price sale at my stall in the Buttermarket at the Treacle Market, Macclesfield, this Sunday, 28 January. Over 100 prints with either 25% or 50% discount. Limited time only.
Things you didn't know about 16th century fashion.
High fashion Just sold this hand-coloured aquatint of Lady Jane Grey and it's going to the US. I shall give my customer some info from the Court Ladies Magazine and I pass it on here as I shall no longer have access to it once it's posted. In order to look regal, as she was quite small, she wore cork chopines -....
Christmas
Hello, all Last email before Christmas so I thought I'd direct you to our Christmas collection. It will disappear at the end of December, so look now! I'll just show you one or two examples, below.
Just a thought at Christmas
Just a thought at Christmas This is not very cheery, I know, but I have a few illustrations by Honor C Appleton of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol and I'm finding this one particularly affecting. I hope you can read the words underneath. I noted "This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want."

Now and then I'm frequently quite sad when I sell a print I've been particularly keen on because I know the chances of seeing it again are remote. But that's the point of what I do: these are all from a time that's gone and they are (hopefully) going to a good home. So though I occasionally think it would be nic...
Getting ready for Christmas
The perfect Christmas present It's never too early to get your sock presents sorted. These are from the Interwoven Stocking Company, Martinsburg, West Virginia. Mind you, the advert's over 50 years old so it's just possible they've sold out. See this and other vintage advertising here.

American chic - a 1930s take on Paris fashions
American chic These rare fashion studies were produced by the André Studio for American designers by Pearl Levy Alexander in 1939 and 1940. The André Studio was a sketch subscription service for the garment industry, copying and adapting designs from Paris and elsewhere over a 50-year period. The designs were p...
Fun and games with alt-text
Fun and games with alt-text I'm trying to get into the habit of writing descriptions of my prints, to make them more accessible. It's surprisingly hard. For example, for this gorgeous nursery print by K J Fricero, I've written "Two little girls dressed in late18th century clothes. One is playing a banjo, one is dancing, with a...
See how nice they look!
See how nice they look! My customers are always telling me how nice the prints look on their wall and I'm always asking them to send me a picture. Mostly they don't, but here's one from someone who bought 6 and has just bought another 6. She says her room will soon look like an anthropological museum! I haven't got many Br...
Getting the colours right.
Getting the colours right I like to do the best I can for my pictures, so I've mounted these in a subtle mixture of dove grey, silver grey, wedgwood and cream. According to Daler-Rowney, that is - I'm not sure I've got any of them quite right. Still, the prints shine out - beautiful, delicate illustrations by Warwick Goble o...
Art nouveau on the wall
From my bathroom wall I've got a few of these chromolithographs by Thomas Crane (brother of the more famous Walter Crane), so while they sell, they can sit on my bathroom wall. The actual illustrations were done by his cousin, Ellen Houghton, and the decorations by Thomas (but he gets all the credit). They are from two b...
I bet he was only supposed to bring home one thing.
Hullo, kiddies Is it me, or would it have been rare for a man to come home with the shopping?
Do you like your vintage prints pristine?
Do you like your vintage prints pristine? You see, I love this picture - such style. But there's no getting away from it, it has damp splodges on it. Apart from the occasional use of an eraser, I don't attempt any restoration on my prints (this may be partly due to a lack of ability, I must admit). Everything I sell has been around for at l...
Just landed: new arrivals
Just Landed: New Arrivals - a sample Just trying out a new template here for giving you a heads-up as to new items on the website. I can only put 8 on here (though that's probably enough for your email provider to deal with!), but do look on the site itself, as I try to put new stuff on all the time. There are some stylish '50s French....

Who wants a mustard bath? I had a look and can't see that Colman's still does mustard specifically for the bath, but there are a number of providers that do, and swear by its power to relieve aches and pains and 'flu symptoms. I even saw a discussion about whether it helped Covid 19 sufferers (they concluded it didn't). You'...
