Salvation Army, Old Swan & Stoneycroft

This Sunday we will be finishing our series looking at historical Salvationists by looking at Samuel Logan Brengle alongside Acts chapter 10. We are delighted to have Major Steve Fripp from our Divisional Headquarters speaking on this subject.

We will also be officially welcoming Major Mark Spencer-Arneaud as our part-time Associate Officer. Mark has been a member of our church for many years but we wanted to mark the official change of appointment publicly and celebrate this official change in his role.

We will also be praying for children as they go back to school this week.

Please note that we have postponed our monthly bring & share meal until Sunday 8th Sept as it's still summer holidays this weekend.

This Sunday we're continuing our series looking at historical Salvationists alongside the book of Acts. We'll be looking at ch. 8.26-40 this Sunday and Brigader Jonah Munyi (pictured below).

We will also have our monthly fellowship meal - so do bring food along to share if you can.

During August we will be 'slowing down' a bit - with our Sunday services a bit shorter and there will be no Sunday School. Do bring children along however, as the service will be family friendly and there will be activity sheets and the creche open during the shorter talk.

This Sunday we're starting a new series, looking at the heritage of the Salvation Army through a number of its historical figures alongside the book of Acts.

We're starting by looking at the 'Mother of the Salvation Army,' Catherine Booth along with a passage that was very important to early Salvationists, Acts 2.1-10 (Pentecost).

This Sunday we're coming to the end of our series on the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus says that anyone who listens to everything he has said and puts it into practice is like someone building a house on a rock, but if they listen and ignore it, it's like they are building their house on sand.

We also have prize-giving for all our wonderful children for coming to the end of the year at church, and we are delighted to be officially welcoming a new member of the church. So a packed Sunday!

This Sunday is our next family service, when our whole church family stays together for our worship meeting. We will be reflecting on the story of Esther and asking what God might be asking of us, 'at such a time as this?'

We will also have our monthly fellowship meal, so if you're able to come, please bring along some food to share.

We had a wonderful away day at Strawberry Field Liverpool today, praising God, having fun in the sun & enjoying great fellowship with excellent food!

This Sunday we have no worship meeting at our hall as we have our church away day at Strawberry Field in Liverpool.

We are delighted to have Major Dr David Taylor (the Divisional Commander of the NW England & Isle of Man Division) delivering the teaching at our away day.

We are passionate about local church unity at Stoneycroft SA. A few weeks ago one of our officers preached at All Saint's Church, Stoneycroft - and as part of a 'pulpit swap' we're delighted to have one of their ministers, Tom Langdon-Smith, preaching at our meeting this Sunday.

We are continuing our series on the Sermon on the Mount, looking at Matt. 7.7-12 where Jesus encourages us to ask God for the things that we need.

We had a wonderful time this morning learning about Elijah in our family service!

This Sunday is our monthly family service - a time when all children & adults stay together to reflect on a story from the Bible. This month we're looking at the story of Elijah who made an altar to challenge the prophets of the false god Baal.

We will also have our monthly fellowship meal - a time to bring & share some food. Don't worry if you can't bring anything though - there's always lots to go around!

When's your birthday? The birthday of the worldwide church is Pentecost - the time when the Holy Spirit came upon the earliest followers of Jesus: 'They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.' Acts 2.3

This Sunday we will be celebrating the church's birthday at Pentecost and reflecting on what it means for us today in 21st century Liverpool. In an era of ever increasing culture wars it's very easy to judge others isn't it? Jesus says we should take the log out of our own eyes before taking the speck out of someone else's. Does this mean that we are never supposed to have opinions or thoughts on what others say?

This Sunday we'll be thinking about where Jesus says this in Matthew 7.1-5. Sunday School as normal.

We are delighted to be partnering with our friends at YWAM Liverpool to host a monthly prayer & worship night at our building. This will be on the second Monday of each month starting this Monday 13th May 7.30-8.30pm.

Tomorrow we have our monthly family service - a time when children & adults all stay together to reflect on a story from the Bible. We will be looking at the famous story of David & Goliath tomorrow to see what it can teach us today. There will be songs, craft & lots of fun for all ages!

Do you worry? What a silly question - everyone worries! Our society has record levels of anxiety and depression. Can Jesus really mean what he says when he says 'Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take care of itself'?

Here's what Jesus has to say below. When we do good deeds don't even let your left hand know what your right is doing. God is the only one who needs to know.

Today Samson (the puppet!) showed us how living the life God has for us is SO much better than living to impress others!
Then we retold the story in groups by making story boards.

In the Bible, Samson wanted to impressed Delilah so told her a big secret!

This Sunday we will have our next family service - the time each month when everyone stays in together to learn about a story from the Bible. We will be looking at the story of Samson this week - and to give some prior warning, there may be puppets involved..!

Tomorrow is Good Friday when we remember Jesus' death on the cross. We will have a reflective worship meeting from 2-3pm with children's activities in our second hall.

On Sunday we will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead! We will have our worship meeting at the normal time of 10.30am.

Tomorrow is Palm Sunday when we remember Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on a donkey.

Did Jesus really mean what he said? In our next section on the Sermon on the Mount we're looking at one of Jesus' most radical sayings: 'But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you'.

We're delighted to have a guest speaker coming to share on this topic: Michael Chesterman from YWAM Liverpool . As well as speaking on this teaching of Jesus he will be sharing about YWAM's work in Liverpool.

We will have our Self-Denial altar service - an opportunity to give financially to support the work of the Salvation Army around the world.

We will be celebrating the Mums and mothering figures in our church for Mothering Sunday.

We were delighted to welcome Kay and JD as official members of our church family today!

We also had a wonderful time learning about the Exodus story in our family service followed by our monthly fellowship meal.

This Sunday is our next family service - the time each month where our children don't go to Sunday school but we are altogether for the whole meeting. We will be looking at the story of the Exodus when God's people came up out of Egypt.

The divorce rate in England & Wales is 32%. Divorce is a difficult and sensitive subject for many people - but as a Christian community we don't think we should sweep difficult subjects under the rug.

Jesus speaks about marriage & divorce in Matt 5.31-32 and this will be our focus as we move on in our series on the Sermon on the Mount this Sunday.

We will be hearing more about the Salvation Army's international self-denial appeal and as normal we will have singing, Sunday school and much more!
