Yesterday after our 142nd anniversary celebrations, some of our youth cell and young adults went to Southport for the afternoon. They enjoyed food followed by a walk into town for ice cream, bowling, laser tag and air hockey. It's so good that our younger people are getting together more often and enjoying spending time together.

We're very much looking forward to celebrating Christmas with Strawberry Field Liverpool this November at the beautiful St George's Hall.

As we celebrate 142 years of The Salvation Army Liverpool Walton, we take a look at what a typical day looks like in our Community Centre.
We first identified our need to serve our local community when we moved to our new building in 1989. It all started a few months after we moved in with the establishment of a Parent and Toddler Group twice a week, a Body & Soul Group and an Over 60's Club. Since then, our community work has grown bigger and bigger. In 2005, we adapted our building and doubled it in size. The extension was to house our purpose-built Community Centre which officially opened in July 2005.
18 years later, we've seen tens of thousands of people walk through our doors to use our services. We currently host a number of courses each day ran by Liverpool City Council Adult Learning Service, WEA and many other organisations. The courses vary from IT, Art, Dressmaking and History to English and Maths. Please don't hesitate to contact us via phone or email for further information about the latest courses.

We're excited to announce that this year, Celebrating Christmas with Strawberry Field will take place at the wonderful St George's Hall!

The Christmas celebration will take place on November 26 at 4pm, and will feature music from the Liverpool Walton Salvation Army Band. It will also include music from singer Asa Murphy and Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Charlie Green, as well as Liverpool Lighthouse gospel choir, while the evening will be compered by BBC Radio Merseyside’s Paul Beesley. The concert will also feature a host of special guests and readings that celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.

The Salvation Army’s Strawberry Field will bring its annual Christmas carol concert to St George’s Hall this November in partnership with Liverpool’s esteemed heritage trust, St George’s Hall Charitable Trust. All proceeds from the concert will go to support both charities' projects.

Yesterday our Youth Cell and YA Group met at Crosby Lakeside for a barbecue. It's the first time they've been together for a social event in quite a few months, but it was so good for them to spend time together! There was football, food, chat, frisby and some even found themselves on the kids playground (Yes, we know 😂) After some food and social time, they enjoyed some acoustic worship thanks to Joy and Sammy who brought their guitars. So good to be back together after the summer. As always, we thank God for blessing our church with all of these amazing younge people, who are in so essential our big family of God. Those of you who couldn't make it where missed! Keep an eye out for the October event!

The Liverpool Walton Band of Salvation Army is a group of talented and dedicated brass players and is about 30 in size. Players are all members of our church and range in age from mid-teens to their 70's. Members share a desire to praise God through playing their instruments. The band was established in 1885, 4 years after the corps opening. Still today, nearly 140 years later, the band plays an essential part in our worship at Liverpool Walton, and in delivering the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people in the great City of Liverpool. The band is currently under the leadership of our Bandmaster, Neil Lacey. He is assisted by Deputy Bandmaster Glyn Griffiths, Band Secretary Brad Samuel and Assistant Band Secretary Peter Knightley, Band Sergeant Ray Collings and Band Librarian Matthew Elliott. The Band can be seen bringing the message of the gospel at events in the city, such as LightNight, religious festivals like the Pentecost Pageant and at Christmas which is a particularly busy time for the band. Most recently, the band visited Leek Salvation Army along with our songster brigade. They both took part in the Leek Club Day Parades and in the evening gave a concert at Leek Corps.

What a brilliant weekend we just had with the visit of the East of England Divisional Youth Band and Youth Chorus. On Saturday they gave a concert at Strawberry Field, and then came to lead our worship service here at Liverpool Walton on the Sunday. What a lovely bunch of people! Fantastic worship and music throughout the meeting where God's presence was so evident and the faith of these amazing young people shone bright. We listened to some lovely readings and testimonies from some youth band and chorus members, and a great message from Gill McCredie (Church Leader at Grays Salvation Army in Essex). We want to say a big thank you for travelling all the way up north in the sweltering heat and spending the weekend with us. We had a great time with you, and hope you felt very welcome in our church.

Our band had a great time at Strawberry Field Liverpool on Saturday as they officially opened the new bandstand in the gardens. We've had a long history of supporting The Salvation Army's work at Strawberry Field going right back to the 1930's, and it was a privilege for our band and some of our corps members to be there on Saturday.

Next weekend we welcome the East of England Divisional Youth Band & Youth Chorus! On Saturday at 3pm they will be in concert at Strawberry Field Liverpool, and then leading our worship service here at Liverpool Walton on Sunday at 10.30am. It would be great to see you join us for the weekend! Please pray for the youth and their leaders as they prepare to visit our great city.
