Ken Loach's realistic portrayal and the universal themes depicted in the film resonate deeply with audiences, especially those facing similar struggles in Liverpool. The Museum of Liverpool provides an ideal backdrop for this powerful narrative.
Adam Simms, a Media, Film, and TV graduate from Liverpool Media Academy, and Honorata Mikolajew, founder of Cinema Social Club and a film direction graduate, will introduce and lead a discussion on Ken Loach’s film.
Cinema Social Club aims to use film as a catalyst for meaningful discussions on social and political issues worldwide. Join us to watch the film, engage in dialogue, and share a drink. We will also host guests from the city council and from local organisations. Supported by Migrant Democracy Project and POMOC, we look forward to your attendance.

ABOUT SPEAKERS:
Adam Simms: Media, Film, and TV graduate from Liverpool Media Academy. Experienced in independent filmmaking, his work spans from short films to live events. His introduction to Ken Loach's films began with "Riff-Raff," featuring Liverpool’s Ricky Tomlinson, whom he met during his studies. The film provided him with a fascinating insight into working-class life in the 80s, exposing poor working conditions on building sites.
Honorata Mikolajew: Founder of Cinema Social Club with a background in film direction and film and media from Lodz, Poland. Experienced in cultural event organisation and programming, including film festivals in Liverpool. Honorata is also currently taking part in the MPower Leadership programme where she is learning about the political system in the UK. Her favourite Ken Loach film is "I, Daniel Blake," depicting the complications caused by the benefit system.

Cinema Social Club founder Honorata Mikolajew was in this week Liverpool Echo talking about The ABC cinema.
"Everyone has an opinion on what to do with the old building. For Honorata Mikolajew, it would be best used returned to its former glory as a cinema. The 43-year-old, who lives in Edge Hill, runs Cinema Social Club - a group who use alternative films to spark conversations around political and social issues.
The club, which has been running since October last year, does not have a permanent home and moves between different locations in the city. "We move from one building to another - we're non profit so this means it's very expensive," says Honorata. "We want the cinema to be open to all so would love to use a site like the ABC as a community space for cinema.
"We don't have an alternative cinema in Liverpool - it's something we are missing here. Not everyone can afford to go to the cinema or want to watch what they are showing. A lot of the other old cinemas in the city have been sold off and have been made into other things - this is one of the last standing, I hope something gets done with it."
Former jewel in city's crown left to rot The ABC cinema used to evoke memories of Hollywood's Golden Age but now it's in a sorry state
