Established in 1866 the Edinburgh Sutherland Association links Sutherlanders living in Edinburgh and raises money for good causes.

Happy to announce that this year we have agreed to donate over £4,100 to good causes in Sutherland after our recent call for applications.
The charity is donating to the following good causes:

• Strathnaver Community Hall - £250 for a new cooker
• Fèis air an Oir - £600 fees for young assistant teacher at the Fèis
• Sutherland Care Forum - £250 for supplies for Befriending services
• Connect Assynt Ltd - £200 - towards Ullapool supermarket transport
• North Coast Connection - £150 for art & craft supplies
• Culrain & District Hall Committee - £580 for events marquee tent
• Dornoch Pipe Band - £275 for new pipe bag covers
• Lochview Rural Training - £250 for an educational resource box
• Clyne Heritage Society - £300 towards a research trip to School of Scottish Studies
• Assynt Mountain Rescue Team - £360 towards new all terrain tyres
• Assynt Leisure, Youth & Learning centre - £250 towards craft supplies
• Lairg Gaelic Choir - £400 towards costs for commissioning a new song/arrangement inspired by the Clearances in the Strath of Kildonan
• Golspie Youth Action Project - £300 for personalised hi-vis vests

We are delighted to announce that we will host a Sutherland ceilidh on 1 August in Stoer Village Hall.

Dance to Drumbeg’s finest, Rory Matheson, and his bandmate Craig Baxter, with songs from our President, Andrew Mackenzie, and special guest Annella Bulch.

ESA Applications for Funding are now OPEN for 2024!
Submission deadline: Friday 28th June.

We are pleased to announce that 2024 applications for funding now open. Applicants should demonstrate in writing why they are deserving within the meaning of the objectives of the Association.

We are particularly interested in requests looking for a specific amount for a project or part of a project.

Please make applications via the website where possible.

Great to see- good luck Poppy!

⭐ Support announcement! ⭐

15-year old Poppy Mackay from Golspie Village will make her Sutherland Sessions debut on Saturday night, supporting Gnoss in Helmsdale.

Poppy has been taught by Heather Smith since the age of 5 and is currently studying at the Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music in Plockton, something she describes as 'a dream come true'.

We are really grateful to Edinburgh Sutherland Association for their support for this concert.

This year we have agreed to donate over £4,400 to good causes in Sutherland after our recent call for applications. The charity is donating to the following good causes:

• Aaron Sutherland, Talmine- Support for music college expenses (microphones etc)-£463
• Dornoch Primary School Parent Council- Storytelling bench -£700
• Kyle of Sutherland Hub – Arts and craft learning materials-£500
• Fèis Ghallaibh, Armadale - School visits to encourage children to attend Feis-£300
• Tykes Young Carers, based in Golspie - Respite break bus hire and groceries-£660
• Fèis Chataibh, Golspie - Support for tuition sessions-£300
• Rosehall Primary Parent Council – Minibus hire and a drama workshop at Eden Court-£480

We enjoyed an excellent Christmas Dinner last night in Edinburgh, with entertainment from David Morrison, our Patron, Andrew Mackenzie, our President, and Andy Sanders. Thanks to all who attended and donated prizes to the raffle. The event raised £280 for the association, which will be passed on to good causes next year.
