Well according to this month’s Men’s Health magazine:
As we become ever more urbanised and spend increasing amounts of our time indoors and online (22 hours and six hours a day respectively), it’s easy to neglect the natural world around us.
Yet we remain inextricably a part of it- and whether it’s a ‘forest-bathing expedition to the Japanese mountains or a lunchtime stroll in the local park, scientists have found that exposure to green spaces has measurable benefits to your body and mind.
In a recent study by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, researchers analysed the use of prescription drugs among 16,000 city dwellers who were asked to complete a survey about their interactions with nearby green spaces.
These ranged from public gardens and parks to nature reserves - easily accessible spots of nature even in a bustling city. Over the course of one summer, the scientists found that visiting such places three to four times per week correlated with significantly lower odds of requiring certain medicines.
For example, habitués of neighbourhood parks had a 26% lower chance of using asthma drugs compared with those who had no exposure to greenery, were a third less likely to manage their mental health with the aid of medication and were a staggering 36% less likely to require blood pressure pills.
The precise reasons why have yet to be fully established, but swapping your gym floor for a run in the woods a few times a week is among the simplest ways of giving the green light to better all-round health. What’s more, separate studies have linked exposure to sunlight with lower systolic blood pressure readings (regardless, happily, of the temperature outdoors). Race you there?

We chose the colour Inchyra Blue by Farrow and Ball for our gym walls – chosen for its ability to instill a sense of serenity and focus amidst the hustle of workouts, creating an atmosphere of tranquility to enhance your fitness journey.
This aged blue grey is inspired by the naturally dramatic Scottish skies that act as a backdrop for the classic Georgian Inchyra House. It can be found on the exterior doors of their very impressive byre or barn which nestles at the bottom of a rather grey and imposing brae (also known as a hill).
Such is the magic of our colours, this moody hue can read more grey, blue or even green depending on the light. A great alternative to charcoal, use it to inject a hint of colour into a super contemporary home or create a dark and intimate feel by combining it with Black Blue or Vardo.

The science:
Firstly, lifting weights and engaging in other forms of exercise has been shown to release endorphins, which are natural chemicals in the body that can improve mood and reduce feelings of anxiety and stress.
Additionally, strength training has been linked to improvements in cognitive function and can even help to reduce symptoms of depression.
One study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that individuals who engaged in a 10-week strength training program experienced a significant reduction in symptoms of depression compared to those who did not exercise.
Furthermore, lifting weights can also help to build self-esteem and confidence, particularly when individuals see improvements in their physical strength and abilities over time.

Reflections from our CEO on the word ‘Why?’
“Why is such a powerful word, it's right up there with ‘what’ if and, ironically, ‘why not’?
Why do dogs bark? Why is the grass green?… or why must gyms be intimidating, loud, with no support around mental health when so many of us are suffering in silence?
Okay, I gave up on the first two a while ago, mainly because I couldn't build a business around them.
But that gym question, that one I just couldn't shake off. After all, a calming, non judgmental SafeSpace which protects your mental health, that’s the holy grail right there!
I spent the past few years since the coronavirus pandemic asking myself this, why can't personal training be performed in a beautiful, intimate, cosy environment almost my grandma’s living room?
And now, I can tell you. It can. Oh it so can.
I met my Co-founders in the local area who were already involved in the fitness industry and it seems I wasn’t the only one thinking about this problem. So Angel Gyms was born.
Say hello to Angel Gyms, where I, and now all of us in our wider team have devoted our mission to ending gym anxiety.
No more “gymtimidation”, loud intense music (bring on Shirley Bassey!), no more huffing and puffing “gym bros”, sharing equipment with members and we have banished black walls, bright cold lights and industrial interiors. It’s about delivering a quality one to one, personal training service in a caring space.
It’s named Angel Gyms after my namesake and a nod to our values. Whether the namesake is deserved is another matter, I am determined for us to be a positive movement in this industry.”

And now, I can tell you. It can. Oh it so can.
I met and was so inspired by entrepreneur Gabe Saclain, what he had built and and his team he formed around him: it seems I wasn’t the only one thinking about this problem! So I joined Angel Gyms in a heartbeat.
Say hello to Angel Gyms, where I have devoted my life mission to ending gym anxiety. No more loud intense music (bring on Shirley Bassey!), no more huffing and puffing “gym bros”, no more white walls, bright white lights, black soul destroying floors. It’s about delivering a quality service in a caring space.
