Literacy is a fundamental right that opens the door to other human rights, freedoms, and global citizenship.

But children who live on the streets of Kolkata are not afforded this right. TV presenter Sue Perkins began sponsoring a child's education through HOPE after witnessing the experiences of disadvantaged children in Kolkata.

Sue says: "Seeing the work of the Hope Foundation while filming Kolkata and The Ganges for the BBC had a profound impact on me... In 2017, I started sponsoring a child with HOPE and I would encourage anyone who is considering signing up as a sponsor to go for it. Through sponsorship, you will be changing a child’s life and giving them the security and opportunities that they desperately need and deserve."
